Mamelodi Sundowns young star Kabelo Moagi will be hoping to be amongst the big names when the DStv Compact Cup action begins.
The Brazilians reserve team midfielder is amongst the players that were selected to represent Masandawana supporters to participate in the first of it’s kind “viewer’s choice” competition. Moagi briefly accounted his presence in the tournament to the supporters that have shown confidence in his talents and abilities:
“I’m thankful for the people that voted for me to participate in the DStv compact cup, I wholeheartedly thank you and express my gratitude. I’m truly thankful to everyone who voted for me, this is an opportunity for me, this is an opportunity for the world and for teams to see who Kabelo Moagi is. This has shown me that there are people who believe in me and I can’t wait to participate in this cup.” Said the Diski team player.
The Compact Cup is a combination of all the 16 Premier Soccer League teams together with the spectator, coaches and players collaborating to form a team of their choice to compete in the tournament. For the first time, rivals will become friends as players from opposite teams will come together under one name and compete to take home a cash prize of one million rands.
“I am looking forward to seeing the likes of Sipho Mbule, Teboho Mokoena, Kermit Erasmus, Lesedi Kapinga and others, these are some of the best players in the PSL. It’s not going to be an easy road, but there is no other choice but to work hard and showcase my talent, I will play my best and make everyone who voted for me proud. [These players] are also players just like and they also started [their journey] where I am today.
“I just have to apply what I know and what is expected of me in the team. I am honored to play alongside the best players in the league and grateful to be a recipient in this competition and I’m grateful to the PSL for the opportunity. I can’t wait for this tournament to begin.”
Moagi is one of 7 Brazilians who will be representing Dinaledi FC in the tournament, with the first semi-final taking place on Saturday 22 January at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 202.
