Katlego Malebane is part of the team representing South Africa in the COSAFA region at the much-anticipated CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals, taking place in Tanzania from the 21st to the 24th of May.
The 15-year-old is one of the fast-rising talents currently nurtured within the thriving Mamelodi Sundowns youth system. The Limpopo-born youngster began her journey with the academy boys at the age of 8 and has since grown through the ranks, currently playing with the club’s Under-20s.
The four-day tournament in Zanzibar features CAF Zonal Union U-15 Boys and Girls champions, with the Malebane-led South African team competing against countries like Uganda, Togo, Gambia, Tanzania and Morocco.
In their opening game, South Africa drew 1-1 against Uganda, while Togo and Gambia played out a goalless draw and Tanzania registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Morocco.
Katlego and her team will be aiming to notch up their first win on day two as the quest to be crowned continental champions heats up.
The Mamelodi Sundowns youngster also famously featured as one of the ball girls at the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Final, where South Africa prevailed over hosts Morocco to clinch their first-ever title.
We wish Katlego Malebane and the entire South African team all the best in Tanzania!!!
