Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to complete a double over Vasco da Gama Ladies as both teams square off again in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Both teams clashed on Wednesday with Banyana Ba Style clinching maximum points thanks to late strikes from Boitumelo Rabale and Lelona Daweti.
With Sundowns Ladies missing several key players thanks to international commitments (Andile Dlamini, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane, Thalea Smidt, and Melinda Kgadiete), the reigning champions have had to dig deep in recent times.
One player who has grabbed the opportunity with both hands is Khutso Pila. The versatile defender has displayed pure class in various defensive and midfield positions thus far.
“Being a versatile player comes with a lot of responsibilities because one has to be switched on at all times. Thanks to the support of the technical team and coaches, I have been able to excel in the various positions I find myself in. I am very happy to contribute to the success of the team despite missing a couple of players in recent times,” Pila stated.
The 22-year-old defender who is one of the youngest players in the team further spoke about the importance of Sunday’s game.
“It was a very tough fixture on Wednesday because of the low defensive block they deployed. Although we expect the same scenario on Sunday, we still have to prepare for the unexpected. The league has been very unpredictable, and we are not taking anyone for granted. We expect a very tough encounter, and we are fully prepared to give everything on the pitch,” Khutso concluded.
Ahead of Sunday’s game, Sundowns Ladies remain top of the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 58 points with 19 wins in 22 games. The Brazilians have scored a massive 88 goals and have conceded just 11 times. The Brazilians also possess a mammoth goal difference of +77.
On the Sundowns’ scoring chart, Boitumelo Rabale and Miche Minnies are tied on 15 goals apiece. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has 10 strikes to her name, Melinda Kgadiete has 7 goals and Rhoda Mulaudzi has 6 goals.
The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Vasco da Gama Ladies will take place on Sunday, 9 October 2022, at UWC Stadium in Cape Town. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00.
