Lakay steals it at the end to send the Brazilians to the Nedbank Cup Final

The much-awaited day for resumption of football came and the Brazilians locked horns with Bidvest Wits in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

The game started at a slow pace as both sides were playing for the first time after a hundred and forty-five days. As the time ticked the Brazilians eased up a gear up and started pushing numbers and Sphelele Mkhulise had an opportunity in the 14th minute but his shot was deflected into the hands of Brighton Mhlongo.

With the first half slowly fading away, Mamelodi Sundowns were awarded a penalty after Buhle Mkhwanazi pulled Motjeka Madisha down in the box and Ricardo Nascimento made sure as he converted from the spot-kick beating Mhlongo. The score at half-time was 1 nil to the home side.

The restart saw the “Students” showing their intentions to get an equaliser by making changes bringing in Human and Macheke but the yellow wall stood firm and was not letting anything pass. Coach Pitso Mosimane also made changes sending in Keletso Makgalwa, Lyle Lakay and Andile Jali for Sibusiso Volakazi, Themba Zwane and Sphelele Mkhulise

A mistake by Madisha in the 76th minute gave the visitors an equaliser as Dzvukamanja beat Onyango. It took only four minutes for Masandawana to regain the lead as Makgalwa pounced to an Onyango assist as Mhlongo made an error call to come out. With the game slipping away from Gavin Hunt’s side Dzvukamanja grabbed his brace for the night and made the score two all with a few minutes to spare. The clash looked like it will be going to extra-time as five minutes of the referees optional time had been played but Lakay had other plans as the substitute with the last kick of the game curled a beauty of a free-kick to send the Brazilians to the final.

Mamelodi Sundowns (37′ Nascimento, 80′ Makgalwa, 95′ Lakay) 3 – 2 Bidvest Wits (76′, 86′ Dzvukamanja)

Congratulations Masandawana ! A hard fought victory indeed! The per performance was far beyond expected after such a long break. The victory was expected one way or the other.Bidvest is always a sore on the throat for Sundowns, a real steep mountain to climb.we never expected an outright win but definitely a good run .Keep it up Masandawana. We hope the rust is shaking off.

Putting Coetzee while we’re playing tough tackle games it’s a bit risky our technical team are not doing well in that regard

    Hard fought win for yello
    nation, We are facing the
    Baccaniars who play
    through the midfield
    Let us make sure that
    they do not penetrate our
    midfield easily , if we
    manage to do that we
are going to win that game

  7. Chino

Madisha is full of mistakes ,everytime he touches the ball u wonder what is he going to do .pitso please put Coetzee back to his central role. Every season we conceding unnecessary goals because of such defenders …….
