Mamelodi Sundowns Gear Up for their Last Clash of the Year

Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for the resumption of the DSTV Premiership campaign and their last game of the year against Orlando Pirates. The Brazilians Head Coach Rulani Mokwena previewed the much-anticipated clash against the Buccaneers to extend their lead on the top of the log.

“It’s going to be an interesting game because there’s two very good teams meeting. Breaks are always very difficult to judge up until you have the performances on the pitch, which is why I always say that the game of Football belongs to the players because they’re the people that put the product on the pitch and we are yet to see what the players put on the pitch on Friday”, said Coach Rulani Mokwena as he shared his insights on the upcoming match.

The Brazilians are currently sitting at the top of the DSTV Premiership Log in the Premier Soccer League, leading with twenty-eight (28) points, having won their last five games. Prior to losing their place in the MTN8 final to the Soweto side, they met up with Orlando Pirates during the Carling Black Label Cup Competition where they secured a 3-0 win.

Coach Mokwena shared the team’s desired outcome for the game. “We are just hopeful that the work we’ve done can give us a very good performance because we know that playing against Orlando Pirates, we don’t have a chance of winning if we don’t play well. We want to play well, and we want to win. Our focus is on the preparations, and I think as a team we’ve done a great job to try and assist the players to prepare for the game and make sure we give out a good performance.”

He additionally mentioned that he is fortunate to work with the group of players he’s working with at the Club. The Masandawana Coach revealed that the team is aware of the strengths Pirates possesses which is why the team has certain schemes and positional adaptations that they’ve been working on.

Bafana Ba Style Midfielder Themba Zwane commented on his expectations for the game. “We want to win the game and we have been working on improving from our previous game. We know that it’s going to be a difficult game, but we are ready to fight as a team. “

Mamelodi Sundowns will go head-to-head with Orlando Pirates at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday 30 December 2022. Kick-off is at 15h30 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
