CAF today released a preliminary list of nominees for the 2021 CAF Women’s Award with several Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies named in different categories.
Goalkeeper Andile ‘Sticks’ Dlamini and defender Bambanani ‘Juice’ Mbane were among the 30 nominees for the Player of the Year category.
Dlamini and Mbane were also nominated for the InterClub Player of the Year award with teammates Zanele Nhlapho and Andisiwe Mgcoyi joining them in that category.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were nominated for Club of the Year. The Brazilians famously sealed a treble last season, winning the Hollywoodbets Super League, COSAFA CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers and the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala was full of praise for his troops who were nominated for the continent’s most prestigious award.
“It feels great for the team to be nominated in several categories of this prestigious recognition of footballing excellence. These nominations show that our hard work and determination are not going unnoticed. These announcements have further given us more motivation to set the pace in African football and beyond. We represented the Southern region of Africa at the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League and we did that in style. It is a great pleasure for us to shine more light on the Mamelodi Sundowns brand,” Kappa stated.
The 2022 CAF Awards will be held on 21 July 2022 in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the final of the Africa Women Cup of Nations.
Congratulations to our indefatigable Ladies!
