Mamelodi Sundowns have announced changes to the technical team by naming joint coaches in Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena to lead the club in the new season.
Coach Manqoba Mngqithi and Coach Rulani Mokwena have more than nineteen trophies between them and have been with the Masandawana technical team for many seasons, they are also familiar with the culture and the winning ways of the club.
Upon the appointment of the Coaching duo, The President of Mamelodi Sundowns Dr. Patrice Motsepe said, “Manqoba and Rulani have been with Mamelodi Sundowns for many years and were part of the Technical Team that was crowned Champions of Africa in 2016 and have also won the Premier Soccer League and other titles in South Africa.”
Speaking after his appointment Coach Rulani said, “It is a great honour, there is a deep sense of feeling that goes in towards appreciating the opportunity that we have been given, but with a big opportunity comes big responsibility, primarily to fill in the shoes of Coach Pitso Mosimane because the reality is it is an enormous task at an enormous club. The President has shown a lot of faith, a lot of belief and trust in our capacity as coaches and we can only look forward to making sure we represent the club as best as we possibly can, to give everything we have and do everything we can to do the best for this club and to maintain the recent success and maybe surpass it. The responsibility is immense but it is a responsibility we are looking forward to. We thank the Masandawana family and the Yellow Nation for the love and the support that they have shown not just to myself and Coach Manqoba but with the players and the club. We look forward to representing them and making sure that we keep them happy.”
Coach Manqoba said that, “First one has to be thankful to the President of the club and the Board for bestowing so much trust and confidence on us. It is not easy to give to people who have not been there maybe for quite some time but to say ‘I want to promote my people’, it takes some guts, intelligence and vision and one must appreciate that. Secondly one is very happy to be given such an opportunity to work with this giant team Mamelodi Sundowns, and we hope we will live up to the expectations, it won’t be an easy road but we understand what is expected of us. Our relationships, harmony, unity and hard work will determine the destiny that we will get at the end.”
The first task for the joint coaches is to prepare the team for the 2020/21 season as it kicks off on the 17th of October with the MTN 8, the DSTV Premiership will start on the 24th of the same month.
A double corded effort is stronger and not easy to break, combined effort,a joined supply of wisdom, lets see how it goes,a huge responsibility indeed,we appreciate the promotion,we have no doubt with the experience they have in the team. Coach Rhulani Mokwena is the luckiest man l have ever seen,a man who knows timing,from some deep frustrations, he joins Sundowns a month down the line the team lifts two trophies, his happiness is restored immediately, as if its not enough, boom ,the man is on top of a big club,wow! What a journey in his career! Certainly it comes with a huge responsibility. Do the right thing at the right time, your philosophy will be applicable in a talented team, prove many wrong and silence your haters, With Mngqithi we are confident of his experience, he has been part of all the losses, pains and frustrations in the club for 8 years, he has been part of the happy moments, celebrations and winnings with the club, very loyal to his call as an assistant Coach, now the Shadow is removed, its time to see this big man, we expect even a double effort. Coaches we are happy with the local promotion. Sundowns has not changed anything.Same technical team , same winning players and a new set that will fit like gloves.All the best.
The President this time has let us down unless he has other ideas in terms of head coach at Sundowns . Co coaching wont work at Sundowns with Rulani in the mix . No matter how much we can turn a blind eye to what he did at Orlando Pirates we will always look at him the same way(self glory seeking ). but hail Mamelodi Sundowns you are the best team in Mzansi

I don’t like this thing of joint coaches. Manqoba is fit to be the head coach and Rhulani his assistance to avoid conflict. I am disappointed.

Manqoba shld have the head coach assisted by Rhulani and David Notoane! This thing of joint coach is not the best thing for any team!
