Mamelodi Sundowns appoint Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.

Mamelodi Sundowns today announced the appointment of Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena as Joint Head Coaches with the opinion of Manqoba Mngqithi prevailing when there isn’t consensus.

The President of Mamelodi Sundowns Dr Patrice Motsepe said:
“Manqoba and Rhulani have been with Mamelodi Sundowns for many years and were part of the Technical Team that were crowned Champions of Africa in 2016 and have also won the Premier Soccer League and other titles in South Africa. The board of Mamelodi Sundowns was particularly keen to appoint South African coaches and express its commitment and confidence in the talent and ability of our local coaches. Manqoba, Rhulani and the Technical Team at Sundowns will focus on defending the PSL and the other titles that we won during our historic 50-year anniversary. They will also advance and continue with the objective that we stated in 2004, which is to make Mamelodi Sundowns one of the best clubs on the African Continent.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will in due course make other important announcements.

Well done President and the Board, for appointing our two former assistant coaches as joint coaches. This is what I call continuity at it’s best, with the players we signed I see us winning everything this season, we only need to believe. I can’t wait for the start of the season.

Thanks to management for making this decision to appoint these two coaches. I particularly thank them for believing in black South African coaches. All the best to Manqoba and Rhulani 👆👆❤️

Congratulations to the Coaches.l would have loved to see Manqoba Mngqithi standing alone as the Head Coach and Rhulani Mokwena standing on his side as a pillar (assistant) , giving them equal powers is ok but is it can easily make what would have been a formidable combination have friction. Above all things l love the guys very much,l believe in them, l know Rhulani is like Pitso, he does not accept a defeat, post matches who will be addressing the team talk with the journalists? It will be good if these two gentlemen share the same vision.Goals are the same, winning trophies. So all these signings were done by these big guys.We are persuaded for better things. All the Best Coaches, you have our support

This will give us a good chance to compete and defend our league and cups rather than a new choach coming in and starting to adapt continuity mr president

it’s okay, but I would like to see Manqoba as head coach and Rulani as his assistant instead of joint head coaches to avoid clash of leadership. In addition, Manqoba should be rewarded the head coach position for his experience and loyality to the club, Rulani left us to join Pirates, justice must be done here.

There is wisdom in Mamelodi Sundowns. There are leadership skills. The decision made by the chairman and the board is awesome. Our coaches are given ground, a golden opportunity to function and to excel. Sundowns will lift up the flag again.

Rhulanu Mokoena is an inteligent young man and he still has a lot to learn as far as the dynamics of football is corcened. I was hoping the President and the management would appoint Manqoba as the head coach based on his experience. Lets hope for the best going forward Masandawana amahle. KBY I remain

Well done to management. How I read this joint coaching responsibility is:-

Management don’t want to put Manqoba under pressure.

They don’t want to kill his confidence or eventually lose him in case things don’t go according to plans

This is a win, win situation, if things were not to go according to plans , he will still be at the club.

He has a final say and to me that means he is in charge.

All the best coach, this is your time, you once said you would love to have a chance to choach such a quality at you disposal.

When a club appoints a head coach he takes decision jointly with his technical team the same with joint coaches and head or the other co coach’s views prevails. I think the logic behind what Downs has done it’s to prevent the blame games or taking sole credits that surface when things go according to the plans or not, Secondly what would have happen if there were no understudy when Pitso abruptly left sundowns. I would avoid letting that happen to the yellow nation for man years to come. This a great eye opener. Never, Never and never should sundowns be left without understudy or continuity plan again. I have already felt the icy wave over my body until president Patrice unveiled the due coaches.

Let downs be coach by joint coaches however every system has got it’s advantages and

I would have been a disaster with Gavin Hunt on the other side of the stands. If there is any opportunity get Tinkler roaming close -by as well.for rainy days. It almost got into a disaster that could have had a perennial impact.
