Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are aiming to continue their red-hot form in the Hollywoodbets Super League as they face City Lads in their ninth game of the season. The Brazilians have enjoyed a dominant start to the season, with seven wins registered after eight games in this campaign.
After cruising through April with a perfect record, goalkeeper Mbali Ntimeni believes the morale in camp is high.
“We are collectively excited about the way we have started this season because we know how determined our opponents are to dent our title-defending hopes. However, we have fought as a team to ensure a very good start. Even in training, our dedication and focus have been solid. The aim is to build on this momentum and continue to perform at our best in every match ahead, knowing that every point is crucial in our pursuit of success,” Ntimeni said.
Mbali, who was handed her first start of the season in the 5-1 win over Thunderbirds Ladies last time out, is aiming to take her chances whenever they come.
“I am very happy with the way I performed against Thunderbirds. At Sundowns Ladies, there is competition for places, so it is crucial to always make the most of every opportunity. I am hoping to continue showcasing my abilities and contribute positively to the team’s success whenever called upon,” the goalkeeper stated.
Ahead of the game on Wednesday, Andisiwe Mgcoyi believes the team is working hard to continue their dominant streak.
“Since the league started, we have been working hard to ensure that we boost our title defense. We are also happy with the return of the long-term injured players, so we are looking forward to the game on Wednesday. We see it as a game that we need to win to continue our momentum and solidify our position at the top of the table,” Andisiwe stated.
The veteran striker, who has scored three goals this season, is eagerly looking forward to Sundowns Ladies’ first-midweek game of the season.
“With the games coming thick and fast, the fit-again players will have enough opportunities to get some match action. That is a positive aspect for our team. Ahead of the game on Wednesday, we are not underestimating City Lads, but we are confident in our chances. We know the importance of every match and are prepared to give our all to secure another victory.”
The Brazilians ruthlessly dominated the Eastern Cape-based side since their promotion in early 2022. That season, the Chloorkop side eased to an 8-0 victory at home and a 3-0 away victory. Last season, the Brazilians clinched a 3-1 away win and a 6-0 home win over their opponents.
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and City Lads is set to take place on Wednesday, May 1st, at Groenkloof Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 11:30.
