Mamelodi Sundowns legend and Diski team head coach Surprise Moriri recently completed the Nelson Mandela University/FIFA/CIES Executive Progamme in Sport Management.

The course include – modules like Communications, sports law, marketing, project management. Students learn how to apply sport management principles in the administration of their various enterprises and organizations.

The course is divided by 4 blocks and 1 block requires a full week of attending classes. They invite local and international speakers and lectures so that they can share their experiences from their respective countries.

“It is very important for the coaches to empower themselves so that they can be able to impart the knowledge to the players and also be able to be in touch with the new trends because football evolves.” detailed Moriri.

Moriri already possesses his CAF Licenses and is working towards obtaining his UEFA coaching licence. He also stressed the importance of education for aspiring young players as well as coaches at Sundowns. “It’s tricky but when you have a club like Sundowns that believes in education and the empowerment of its own employees it is possible. We always tell our boys that education is important and that they should be able to balance football and their studies. Our reasoning is that football is a short career and you always need something else in case it doesn’t work out.
