Mamelodi Sundowns recently announced the signing of Rushine De Reuck on a five-year contract, the defender joined Masandwana from Maritzburg United. The 24-year old joined the Brazilians after plenty of impressive showings for the Kwa-Zulu Natal based outfit and joins with a mix of youth and experience. His football journey started at the ASD Academy in Cape Town and he has also strutted his stuff in Portugal where played for FC Paços de Ferreira B before making a return to Mzansi and joined Milano United who was campaigning in the GladAfrica Championship.
De Reuck spoke about how it feels to be part of the Yellow Nation and said “It’s a step in the right direction for me, something I’ve always wanted, something I’ve worked hard towards. I’m excited to be part of this team. I know that I’ll get better and it gives me a lot of motivation to be here. I’m also a bit nervous but it’s normal when you are in a new environment”.
The Bafana Bafana international will be looking to add his defensive qualities and help to stabilise the ever-improving Masandawana defence. In the fifteen games of the DStv Premiership, the Brazilians have conceded seven times and are yet to register a defeat.
“Sundowns have always had one of the best defences in the league since I’ve been playing in the DStv Premiership so it’s no surprise that they are doing so well. It’s very hard to break them down and they concede very few goals, so they’ve been very impressive. I know it won’t be easy to break into the starting line up because they’ve got really good players in my position but it’s a challenge I need to better myself. I know that I can contribute a lot, but I need to show it first”, said De Reuck.
The Cape Town-born defender also touched on what he would love to achieve with the club and also highlighted the fact that there are familiar faces at the club and how that will make his arrival a bit smooth.
“My short term goal is to try and settle in as quickly as possible on and off the field, also I would like to break into the squad as soon as I can but I know that it won’t be easy. Having Cape Town boys makes things a bit easier you know, going to help me settle in about faster and I’ve also played with Lebo Maboe and Brian Onyango at Maritzburg United in the past so that helps me as well. Very happy to be here and can’t wait to contribute to this amazing club”, concluded De Reuck.
Looking forward to seeing you claiming your place in the Starting XI, so wish there was still the late Madisha to partner you at the back.
All the best and keep working hard.
