One is really encouraged with the result- Coach Manqoba Mngqithi

Great display of football by Masandawana in last night’s clash against Cape Town City as the Brazilians took all the points by beating the home side by two goals to nil. Bafana Bastyle has played three games, winning two and playing a draw and they are currently sitting on the summit of the DSTV Premiership log standings.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi said after the win ” One is really encouraged with the result, I think we last won here in 2018 if I am not mistaken. They have always been a troublesome team against us and one is excited. It is always encouraging to see two teams playing offensive football, not one sitting back and not wanting to initiate anything, that was the main encouraging thing for me. They have many intelligent players, I can’t stop mentioning Ralani, he is one of the most underrated players in the league yet the most influential. This is one team that plays good football”.

The Brazilians goals were scored by Lyle Lakay and Keletso Makgalwa, the last time Masandawana beat the Citizens was in the 2018/19 season with three goals to two.

“The game was of great quality in terms of the opportunities created but I was not pleased with the fact that we could not dictate terms by keeping possession. I thought had we converted the chances we created in the first half, we could have gone to half time with a margin of four goals. I know the technical team is still new, the players also are still finding their feet at the club. With time and the FIFA break we will be able to work on the team and get the results we want going forward,” said Coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

Masandawana has not conceded a goal this season and the last time a goal was scored was in the ‘Bio Bubble’ against Baroka.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi stated that “I am happy with the fact that we have not conceded, which is positive for our defence and that does not mean necessarily the last line of defence (the goalkeeper and the back four), I think our counter-pressing is also helping us because we are not much exposed in counter-attacks and break attacks. We are working as a unit in that aspect not to give opponents a free run against us.”
