Red-hot Brazilians prepare for the crunch clash against UWC

15 wins in 16 games played so far in the Hollywoodbets Super League have left Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in beast mode. The red-hot Brazilians welcome the University of the Western Cape on Sunday in a mouth-watering battle for three points and bragging rights.

While Sundowns Ladies have been on an impressive run, their opponents have also enjoyed a strong start to the season. The Capetonians have won 11 times this season and have lost just twice.

Interestingly, Thinasonke Mbuli’s side remains the only team to take points off Sundowns Ladies in the league this season, which makes Sunday’s clash even more significant.

With the games coming thick and fast thanks to the upcoming 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala has backed his troops to show their determination.

“The next few weeks for us will be very demanding and we must be mentally ready for the daunting task. These tough games will help shape us ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League. We are well rested and refreshed, thus, we have no excuses for the next few weeks. Champions are always ready to defend their badge no matter the circumstances,” Kappa declared.

Coach Jerry also dismissed any thoughts of a revenge mission but backed his troops to stick to their famous philosophy of attacking football.

“We are expecting a very tough game against our opponents because they have a solid tactician at the helm. Their position on the table also shows how much consistent they have been all season. Pound for pound, they are one of the most formidable teams in the league. Nevertheless, we are ready for them, and we are going to deploy our strongest possible attacking team for this crunch encounter,” Coach Jerry stated.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have enjoyed a perfect run since the COSAFA final disappointment, scoring 23 goals and conceding just once in five games. Thus, Coach Jerry believes his charges are braced up for the upcoming games against teams vying for the league title.

“After the clash against UWC, we will face Ma-Indies and TUT FC. These are games that will define our character and we are relishing the prospect of bolstering our title defense. These are not easy games by any means, but these are the matches that we live for. We are going to take them one step at a time and hope for the best,” Kappa concluded.

Last season, Banyana Ba Style completed a double over their opponents, and on both occasions, they were met with severe resistance with 1-0 scorelines recorded in the home and away fixtures.

The fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Ladies will take place on Sunday at the Tuks Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is 11h30.
