Mamelodi Sundowns celebrated their treble winning season with an open-top bus parade through Pretoria on Wednesday 1 June.
The Tshwane giants departed from Chloorkop in the early hours of the morning in two buses to travel onto two different routes around Tshwane. One bus went on to take the Mamelodi route, while the other one took the Hammanskraal route.
Masandawana midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee was absent from the last couple of months of the season through injury, but nevertheless added to his extensive collection of accolades with the club. Since signing with The Brazilians, ‘Riva’ has won the league every single year he has played for the club. In that time he has also secured the MTN8, two Nedbank Cups and a Telkom Knockout.
Desite being away for the last part of the season, Coetzee shared his experience in the parade:
“Parading is something that we are not used to, its not something we do everyday – but nonetheless days like this are very important because you don’t know what you’re doing to somebody else’s mood. We really appreciate the support that [the supporters] have shown us not only today but throughout the season.”
Bafana Ba Style traveled through fourteen different townships in Tshwane before heading to the parade finale that was hosted at Church Square. Sundowns supporters were treated to live entertainment on stage, special guests and trophy lifts of the Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and DStv Premiership titles.
“We get to drive around different locations and see people that are unable to make it to the stadiums but they always watch us on tv. It’s good for us to go around townships and give people that opportunity to see us live in front of them and to see us celebrating the treble with them. It’s incredible.” Said Coetzee.
Masandawana will now go into their off-season break after completing a victorious 2021/22 domestic clean sweep.
