Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies found their scoring boots in fascinating style as The Brazilians dismantled Golden Ladies 7-1 in the latest round of Hollywoodbets Super League.
It marked a perfect return to top form after the disappointment suffered during the final of the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier final.
In the build-up to the game, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala backed his troops to respond, and they well and truly did. Kappa deployed a three-woman attacking prong with Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Miche Minnies, and Rhoda Mulaudzi all starting.
After a highly competitive opening, Salome Kekana opened the scoring with a fine strike before Andisiwe Mgcoyi registered her name on the scoresheet. The goal was her 11th of the season. Thus, Sundowns Ladies headed into the break with a 2-0 lead.
After the restart, Rhoda Mulaudzi conjured up a scintillating moment of magic from an acute angle to make it 3-0. Although Kappa’s troops conceded not long after, Rhoda was on hand yet again with an assist for Miche Minnies who made it 4-1.
Sundowns Ladies continued to apply the pressure with Salome scoring a brace to make it 5-1. Further goals from Chantelle Esau and Thembelihle Masibi ensured Sundowns Ladies sealed an emphatic 7-1 victory.
Masibi who registered her first goal of the season expressed her delight, “We really enjoyed ourselves today after the recent disappointment we suffered. It was so good to be back in league action and we made the most of our opportunities against our opponents. The supporters were amazing and overall, it was a very solid performance from our team. We are already looking forward to the next game.”
Khutso Pila who enjoyed a dominant outing praised the winning mentality of the team, “The game provided us with a perfect opportunity to showcase our killer instinct. Despite the tough start, we got into our strides late on. The showboating at the end was entertaining and it further reminded me that the game of football should be enjoyed. We were simply unstoppable today and we are already planning ahead of the next fixture.”
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have now climbed up to fourth on the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 11 wins recorded after 12 games played.
