Sundowns Ladies showcased a remarkable attacking performance as they clinched a resounding 6-0 victory over City Lads Ladies in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League fixture.
Boitumelo Rabale’s superb hat-trick, complemented by goals from Miche Minnies, Lebogang Ramalepe and Refilwe Tholakele, secured all three points for Banyana Ba Style in a comfortable afternoon for the defending league champions.
Following the postponement of their midweek game against the University of Pretoria due to the COSAFA Women’s Championship, the Brazilians were eager to regain their winning form and Miche Minnies wasted no time in opening the scoring as early as the sixth minute.
Three more goals followed, with the Tshwane giants dominating possession in a comfortable first half, resulting in a 4-0 lead at halftime. After the break, Boitumelo Rabale completed her hat-trick and Sundowns Ladies emerged as 6-0 winners, extending their impressive streak to four consecutive victories against their opponents.
Minnies, who bagged the opener in the scoring spree, expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance. She stated, “We faced a formidable opponent today and the overall game was exceptional. We executed our pressing tactics effectively, resulting in some outstanding goals. Despite our recent absence from play, we maintained our training preparations and our quality shone through today. Scoring goals and maintaining clean sheets are hallmarks of our team and we eagerly anticipate our next match. Our team spirit is soaring and we have the confidence to sustain our strong performance in the upcoming matches.”
Tholakele, who had played only once since the beginning of September, conveyed her excitement as the team made a triumphant return to league action. She remarked, “We’ve been away from the field for a while, so it was a fantastic feeling to be back in action. The game allowed us to apply everything we’ve been learning during our training sessions over the past few weeks. Today, we played with a sense of freedom and the goals flowed effortlessly, which was truly exciting. Building this momentum is essential as we prepare for the busy schedule ahead.”
Sundowns Ladies have now amassed 17 wins in 21 games and are poised to carry this momentum into their next game against Durban Ladies on Wednesday. Boitumelo Rabale’s treble has taken her league tally to 15 goals for the season, placing her three goals ahead of Melinda Kgadiete. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has bagged 7 goals, Chuene Morifi has notched up six and Lelona Daweti has five to her name.
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Durban Ladies is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 11th, at the King Zwelithini Stadium, with kick-off set for 13h00.
