Six of the Best for Andisiwe Mgcoyi as Sundowns Ladies Wrap Up the Season in Style

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies striker Andisiwe Mgcoyi turned in an astonishing performance against Ma-Indies Ladies in their last game of the Hollywoodbets Super League, scoring six goals as the continental champions claimed an emphatic 7-0 victory at the Bidvest Stadium. On an afternoon when The Brazilians shattered several goal-scoring records, Mgcoyi delivered an incredible performance to register a double-hatrick in the one-sided fixture.

After flexing their goal-scoring muscles against Richmond United three days earlier, Banyana Ba Style was aiming to finish off the season on a high and the table-toppers did so in style, putting on a goal-scoring masterclass. Downs had the game wrapped up in the first half with four unreplied goals and underscored the words of Head Coach Jerry Tshabalala, who declared in his pre-match press conference that his team was ready to “wrap up the season in style”.

Mgcoyi who scored twice against Richmond United was six goals shy of the Hollywoodbets Super League top scorer award. The Sundowns Ladies number 17 conjured up double trebles on the final day to power herself into contention, thus ending the season on 27 league strikes tied with Nompumelelo Nyandeni of JVW Girls.

“I am very thankful to everyone that has believed in me even when the goals were not flowing. No matter how many runs, assists and great passes a striker has, the most important unit of contribution for a forward remains the goals. It has been an amazing season for me and I am very proud of these achievements. It is only natural for other teams to strive hard to dethrone us from our winning pedestal. Nevertheless, we plan to come back better and stronger,” Mgcoyi stated.

It marks a perfect end to the season for Mgcoyi who was named the ‘Woman of the Match’ after scoring one and assisting another during the final of the inaugural edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

“I am dedicating my goal-scoring awards this season to my teammates because they made it possible. One of my aims was to score 25 goals across all competitions this season and I am very grateful because I scored more than I wished for. This golden boot award will motivate me to do more for the team. Overall, it was a remarkable season for us and I am very excited to be a part of this record-breaking team,” concluded Mgcoyi.

The 7-0 drubbing of Ma-Indies Ladies ensured that The Brazilians finished the Hollywoodbets Super League this season with a bang. The Chloorkop side won 24 matches out of 26 games played, with just one draw and one defeat (boardroom decision). Coach Tshabalala’s troops also scored the highest number of goals with 87 strikes to their name, smashing last season’s tally of 82 goals. Downs also possessed the best defense with 14 goals conceded all season and finished with a goal difference +73, the best in the league.

It brings an end to a glittering season for Sundowns Ladies who clinched the treble for the first time in their history. Aside, from successfully defending their title in the Women’s National Premier League, The Brazilians also clinched the COSAFA CAF Women’s Champions League crown and bossed the continent’s premier women’s tournament in Egypt, a feat which excites Coach Tshabalala.

“Words are not enough to describe the way I feel concerning our achievements this season. I am proud of my squad as their dedication paid off in the end. It is a privilege to win every competition that we participated in and this league trophy is a reward for all the sacrifices we have made this season. We plan to keep up the good work next season and after conquering South Africa and the continent, we plan to extend our dominance beyond Africa as our rise is Limitless,” concluded Coach Tshabalala.

What a treble-winning season it was for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies!
