Spectacular Seven: Sundowns Ladies hammer Tsunami Queens in Style

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their ruthless streak of victories as they registered a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Tsunami Queens in the latest round of Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures played on Wednesday afternoon at Bohlokong Stadium in the Free State.

Having narrowly pipped Durban Ladies 1-0 last time out, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala was aiming for a much-improved performance, and his troops well and truly delivered. A refreshed attacking lineup saw Thembelihle Masibi, Miche Minnies, and Boitumelo Rabale starting in a three-pronged attack.

Although Tsunami Queens put up a brave fight early on, they were undone by a quick-fire brace from Boitumelo Rabale in the 30th and 31st minutes.

Seven minutes later, Chantelle Esau continued her mesmeric run of form by making it three goals in as many games as Sundowns Ladies went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 cushion.

After the break, Coach Jerry refreshed the squad with the introduction of Melinda Kgadiete, Lelona Daweti, and Thalea Smidt for Miche Minnies, Thembelihle Masibi, and Oratile Mokwena respectively.

Those changes increased the momentum of The Brazilians who grabbed a spectacular fourth thanks to a stunning strike from Lelona Daweti.

Substitute Melinda Kgadiete struck a sweet brace before Thalea Smidt completed the rout in a perfect display of attacking football.

It marked the fourth time in the league this season that Sundowns Ladies have scored at least seven goals in a game, something which Kappa is excited about.

“It was another great performance from the Ladies because we showed our superiority on the ball from start to finish. We tried out something new today with our attacking and defending options and we reaped the dividends. It is always good to try out new ideas and it’s even more exciting when those plans are perfected on the pitch. I am happy with our display today and we are looking to improve on our performances in the next game,” Kappa stated.

The comprehensive win means Sundowns Ladies have now climbed up to joint-top of the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 13 wins recorded after 14 games played. The Brazilians have scored a league-high 64 goals and have conceded a joint-league best of nine goals.

Most importantly, the continental champions have four games in hand and Kappa believes his team will need to be mentally strong to handle the rigours of playing so many games in such a short time.

“Since we got back from the COSAFA qualifiers, the games have been coming thick and fast. We are currently playing games every midweek as well as on weekends to meet up with other teams. Champions never shy away from the challenge, and I am happy that we are taking the hurdles one step at a time. Although it’s challenging due to the injuries hitting the team, we have to keep on running through the brick walls to get the job done,” said Coach Jerry.

Goalkeeper Sedilame Boseja was pleased with her performance whenever she was called upon during the clash, “Although we scored seven goals in the game, I am pleased with my contribution to the team. The clean sheet further underlined our dominance in the encounter.”

Boitumelo Rabale’s brace now takes her top of the Sundowns Ladies’ goal-scoring charts with 11 goals, one more than Andisiwe Mgcoyi who has 10. Miche Minnies have nine goals to her name while Melinda Kgadiete, Rhoda Mulaudzi, and Salome Kekana have all scored five times.
