Sundowns Ladies 2025 Season Recap: Road to Glory – Part 2

The second part of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ 2025 season tested the champions’ resolve before showcasing their trademark dominance as the campaign gathered momentum. From early setbacks to commanding performances, Banyana Ba Style once again demonstrated why they remain the standard-setters in the Hollywoodbets Super League. Here’s a look at how the team fared from June to September.

June

June presented immediate challenges for Sundowns Ladies. The Brazilians suffered a 2–0 defeat away to Royal AM, a rare setback that demanded a swift response. They showed resilience in their following fixture, battling to a 1–1 draw against JVW, with Melinda Kgadiete on the scoresheet to secure a valuable point during a demanding phase of the season.

August

After returning to action in August following the conclusion of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Brazilians looked sharper and more assertive in their performances. The champions began the month with a 1–1 draw away to UWC, where Refilwe Tholakele found the back of the net, before producing a composed home display to secure a 2–0 victory over the University of Pretoria, with Noxolo Cesane and Boitumelo Rabale on the scoresheet. The momentum continued away from home as Sundowns claimed a 3–1 victory over Durban Ladies, with Melinda Kgadiete scoring twice and Cesane adding another. August concluded with a narrow but important 1–0 win over the University of Cape Town, as Tholakele once again proved decisive.

September

September marked a clear statement of intent from Banyana Ba Style. The champions opened the month with a composed 2–0 away victory over the University of Fort Hare, with Isabella Ludwig and Nonhlanhla Mthandi on target. They followed that with an emphatic 4–0 win against First Touch Ladies, as Nthabiseng Majiya netted a brace alongside goals from Munashe Mugwara and Tholakele. The rampant Brazilians then edged Richmond United 1–0 on the road, with Noxolo Cesane scoring the decisive goal, before rounding off the month in style with a dominant 5–1 triumph over TUT Ladies. In that encounter, Isabella Ludwig and Cesane both grabbed braces, while Tholakele completed the scoring.

As the season unfolded, Sundowns Ladies reaffirmed their resilience, attacking depth, and defensive discipline, steadily building momentum as they pushed forward in their quest for yet another league title.
