Sundowns Ladies aiming to continue red-hot form against Coal City Wizards

Fresh off their 6-1 demolition of Durban Ladies at the Tuks stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will aim to continue their impressive form against Coal City Wizards this Sunday at the Puma Stadium in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The Brazilians enjoyed their biggest win of the campaign in their previous game, with Lebohang Ramalepe and Andisiwe Mgcoyi registering dominant braces, coupled with goals from Lerato Kgasago and Melinda Kgadiete in a comprehensive display of mesmeric attacking football.

As preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in July gather momentum, Banyana Banyana this week called up Andile Dlamini, Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini, Lebohang Ramalepe, Tiisetso Makhubela, Melinda Kgadiete and Lelona Daweti.

Lehlogonolo ‘Hlogi’ Mashigo remains confident that the team can secure a fourth consecutive win, despite the absence of some key players during training. Even if these players do not feature in Sunday’s match, Mashigo believes that the team is still capable of achieving their goal.

“Due to seven players being called up for the national team, we are currently unable to train together. Nevertheless, we have a sufficient number of players at training, and I am confident that we can address any areas that require improvement. Our team is in excellent form, and we are determined to score more goals in the next game. We are putting in a lot of effort during training to ensure that we are well-prepared and to avoid any surprises on game day,” Hlogi stated.

Mashigo who was on the scoresheet last season at the Puma Stadium in Mpumalanga is eyeing more of the same, “I am enthusiastic about the upcoming game, and if given the chance to score, I will put forth my best effort to make it happen. Based on my current level of performance, I am confident that I will be able to contribute to the score sheet once again. However, the most crucial objective for our team is to secure three points and return home with a victory.”

Miche Minnies is expecting a tough match this time around, having previously scored against Coal City in both home and away fixtures last season.

“Every season is unique, and we have seen how unpredictable the league can be in the current campaign. However, I am always focused on seizing any opportunities that come my way and scoring goals for the team. Having said that, we are aware that we will be facing a formidable opponent who will be motivated to halt our momentum. Despite this, our primary objective remains to secure maximum points in every game we play. We are working hard to maintain consistency in our offensive performance and aim to keep improving in front of the goal,” Miche stated.

Banyana Ba Style steamrolled their Mpumalanga-based opponents last season, scoring 16 times without conceding a single goal. This was achieved through a resounding 9-0 victory at home and a 7-0 win in the reverse fixture. The season before that, Sundowns Ladies recorded a 5-0 away victory and a 2-0 home win over their opponents.

Coal City Wizards are currently in 15th position on the log, with 7 points after winning two games and suffering eight losses. One of those wins was an impressive 2-1 victory over TUT FC in the 10th round of matches, while the other came against Ma-Indies Ladies in the fifth round, with a 3-2 scoreline.

The Brazilians are currently placed second on the standings with 28 points, two points behind the table-topping University of the Western Cape (UWC).

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Coal City Wizards is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 7th, at the Puma Stadium in Mpumalanga. The kick-off is set for 11h30.
