Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will aim to conclude their season with a win as they take on the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in their final game of the Hollywoodbets Super League season this Sunday.
Banyana Ba Style have already been crowned champions, a feat achieved last month in the Tshwane Derby, where they defeated TUT Ladies 5-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium. They will officially receive the trophy after full-time. The massive victory also secured a historic fifth consecutive league title.
The Brazilians have enjoyed a stunning season in the league, amassing 80 points with an impressive 26 wins in 29 matches. They lead the league with 112 goals scored, have conceded just 12, and boast the league’s strongest defense with a goal difference of +100.
The only game they lost this season was against UWC, as far back as March, but Kholosa Biyana believes revenge is not on their minds.
“I do not think it is about revenge. For us, it is just another game we did not get the desired result from earlier in the season. We would not want to lose twice to any team, especially on our home turf, so we are motivated to finish strong. What makes this game even more significant is that it is our final match of the season. Everyone is determined to wrap up the campaign on a high note, regroup and head into the offseason with momentum.”
Captain Zanele Madonsela also emphasized the importance of maintaining focus in their final game of the season.
“UWC always steps up their game whenever they play against us. So, we have to be fully prepared and stay focused throughout the match. We know it will not be easy, but we are ready as a team to give our best and finish the season on a strong note. We are all determined to apply ourselves to avoid losing twice to the same opponent in a season.”
The veteran defender also shared her thoughts on the team’s mentality going into the final match, “Revenge is not the focus; it is about finishing the season with the performance we know we are capable of. We want to make our supporters proud and leave everything on the field as we close out the season. Our goal is to play to the best of our abilities, as we have all season and finish strong.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UWC is scheduled for Sunday, December 8th, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 15H00.
