Sundowns Ladies braced up for the midweek battle against City Lads Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the Hollywoodbets Super League when they clash against newly-promoted City Lads Ladies on Wednesday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Three wins out of the first three games mean The Brazilians have begun the season in the best possible way. A 2-1 victory over Ma-Indies Ladies was followed by an 11-0 smashing of Golden Ladies before the 5-0 triumph over Durban Ladies at the King Zwelithini Stadium last time out.

This blistering start to the campaign has left Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala in confident mode ahead of the midweek clash against City Lads Ladies.

“We are very happy with the way we have started the season, firing on all cylinders and making an early statement in our quest to defend our title. We are hoping to continue to play to our strengths on Wednesday, by putting the ball in dangerous areas and giving ourselves the opportunity to score goals. We have pacy players within our ranks and we plan to capitalise on the ammunition we possess in our arsenal. With Rhoda Mulaudzi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi back into the fold, we are anticipating an exciting game,” Coach Tshabalala stated.

City Lads Ladies have endured a torrid start to the season. After suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of UWC in the season opener, they were thumped 7-3 by TUT FC in their second fixture before losing 2-0 to Thunderbirds last time out.

Despite their struggles, Kappa believes the Eastern Cape side is capable of putting up a stern resistance.

“Their results so far may have been disappointing, but they (City Lads Ladies) remain a very good side. We saw their capabilities during the Sasol League Playoffs and they showed their class all-round. However, the transition to the Hollywoodbets Super League has not been rosy for them, but they are still capable of delivering the goods on any given day,” Kappa concluded.

After three matches played, the continental champions are joint-top of the log with nine points. Banyana Ba Style has scored the most goals thus far with 18 strikes to their name and has conceded just once.

The fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and City Lads Ladies will take place on Wednesday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is 13h00.
