Red-hot Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies could seal the Hollywoodbets Super League title this weekend as they face TUT Ladies in the Tshwane Derby. The Brazilians, who have won their last 14 games in a row, require at least one point from their final two matches to secure an unprecedented fifth consecutive league title.
Lelona Daweti believes derby fixtures are always significant, stating, “They bring out the best in players and supporters alike. The Tshwane Derby is not just another match, but a clash of pride and passion. The atmosphere is always charged with excitement in games of this magnitude and we know that our supporters are counting on us to deliver a performance that reflects the dedication and hard work we have put in this season.”
Daweti emphasized the rivalry’s intensity, noting how both teams bring their A-game when facing each other. “We respect TUT Ladies as they have talented players. But we also know our capabilities. Our focus is on playing our style of football, maintaining possession and creating scoring opportunities. Everyone is determined to preserve the winning streak and keep the momentum going as we head into the final stretch of the season.”
On planning ahead of the crucial Tshwane Derby, Karabo Makhurubetshi stated, “Preparations have been going quite well despite the absence of our other teammates who were on international duty. But overall, we have been pushing very hard with the help of our technical team. They have been instrumental in ensuring that we remain focused and ready for the game ahead.”
Banyana Ba Style heads into Saturday’s game in fine form, having won their last 14 matches in a row and keeping clean sheets in the last eight. Incidentally, Sundowns Ladies last dropped points at the beginning of June in a 1-1 draw against TUT Ladies.
Makhurubetshi believes that chasing a 15th straight win comes with its own set of expectations, stating, “We are accustomed to this kind of pressure. Instead of letting it weigh us down, we will treat the next game like any other match, viewing it more as a cup final. Securing the victory will allow us to breathe easier and shift our focus to what lies ahead, particularly the CAF Women’s Champions League. We know what is at stake and we are determined to rise to the occasion and make our supporters proud.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies is set to take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, November 2, at 15:00.
