Arguably, the biggest fixture of the ninth round of the Hollywoodbets Super League will see Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies clash against JVW FC. Just one point separates both teams at the top of the table and the winner will clinch the top spot after the weekend.
The Brazilians delivered a spirited performance last time against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies. Goals from Boitumelo Rabale and Gabonnelwe Kekana handed the reigning champions a 2-0 win, thus ending their opponent’s unbeaten run this season.
JVW FC meanwhile has been formidable this season and remains the only team yet to suffer a defeat this term. Six wins out of seven games have seen them amass 20 points just one behind league leaders Sundowns Ladies.
Chuene Morifi is anticipating a highly tactical battle against one of the most-inform sides in the league this season.
“This game will be a massive battle and a great advert for the Hollywoodbets Super League. We are coming up against a serious opponent who has shown their class since the season began. They are a vastly experienced team and it is no surprise that they are still unbeaten this campaign. We are aware of their qualities, but we need to be aware of our strengths and what we are capable of doing against tough opponents. I am looking forward to a high octane battle and our objective is to fight for maximum points,” Morifi stated.
Goalkeeper Asa Rabalao is optimistic about a solid result in the blockbuster clash which pits the top two teams on the log standings.
“These are the kind of games we are always looking forward to because they provide us with the opportunity to test our mentality and resolve. It’s a must-win for both teams and there will be bragging rights and top-spot advantage for the side who wins. This is a home game for us and the onus is on us to win. We are not taking our opponents for granted, but we believe in our philosophy and our playing style to get the maximum points. Everyone in the team is ready for this clash and we are hoping to finish the game on a high with maximum points,” Rabalao explained.
On the goal-scoring front, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Boitumelo Rabale lead the Sundowns’ chart with nine strikes apiece, Miche Minnies has netted four times while Rhoda Mulaudzi, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, and Gabonnelwe Kekana have all scored three and two goals each respectively.
Last season, both teams played a 2-2 draw in their first clash while The Brazilians narrowly won the reverse fixture 2-1 at home.
The top-of-the-table fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and JVW FC will take place on Saturday, 04 June 2022, at the Tuks Groenkloof Stadium. The kick-off time for the clash is 13h00.
