After registering a resounding 7-0 victory over Coal City Wizards last time out, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to extend their incredible run of form as they square off against the University of Johannesburg Ladies in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The 7-0 victory over the Mpumalanga-based side marked the 7th time this season that Banyana Ba Style has scored 7 goals or more. The win also took Banyana Ba Style’s tally to 76 points for the season which has seen 25 wins in 28 games.
The Brazilians have also scored a jaw-dropping 119 goals and have conceded just 11 times, the best defense in the league. An incredible goal difference of +108 simply underlines the overwhelming dominance Sundowns Ladies have enjoyed this season.
Despite those tremendous numbers, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala believes UJ Ladies cannot be taken for granted.
“Clashes against the University of Johannesburg Ladies are always tough games because they are a very solid team and a hard nut to crack. We saw how they notched up an outstanding 3-2 win away at JVW FC, another top-ranked team. The result was not a surprise because they have been consistent in the big games this season. Hence, we are fully aware of the magnitude of the threat they possess. They are also going to be playing at home which means they will be fully motivated against us,” Coach Jerry stated.
Kappa has also backed his troops to finish the season on a high, “It has been a very long campaign for us across the various competitions we participated in. Our major objective now is to wrap up the season on a hugely positive note. As a team, there are no complacencies and everyone is fully determined to grab maximum points in our last two games. We are eagerly looking forward to the clash against UJ.”
Games against the University of Johannesburg Ladies have been quite close in recent times. Last season, Banyana Ba Style registered a 2-0 victory at home over their opponents and squeezed out a 1-0 victory on away soil.
Earlier in the campaign, a brace from Melinda Kgadiete and an early strike from Andisiwe Mgcoyi handed Kappa’s side a hard-fought 3-1 home win.
University of Johannesburg Ladies are currently placed sixth on the Hollywoodbets Super League table with 48 points thanks to 14 wins, 6 draws and 8 losses.
The mouth-watering clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UJ Ladies will take place on Wednesday, 23rd November 2022 at the UJ Stadium in Soweto. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00.
