Brilliant Brazilians secure impressive three points against UJ Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their remarkable run of form in the Hollywoodbets Super League with a solid 3-0 win over the University of Johannesburg Ladies in Wednesday’s clash in Soweto.

A superb brace from Miche Minnies coupled with a strike from Tiisetso Makhubela was enough to hand Banyana Ba Style their 26th victory of the season.

Sedilame Bosija was handed a start in goal while Karabo Makhurubetshi, Bambanani Mbane, Tiisetso Makhubela and Lehlogonolo Mashigo anchored the defense line. Chuene Morifi, Thalea Smidt and Oratile Mokwena started in midfield while Boitumelo Rabale, Miche Minnies and Melinda Kgadiete formed a three-woman attacking trident.

Kappa’s troops dominated the early period and broke the resistance of the opponents after just 11 minutes thanks to a fine strike from Miche Minnies who continued to dazzle in her debut season.

Sundowns Ladies continued to apply the pressure with Kgadiete and Rabale coming close on several occasions as the Brazilians went into the break with a slender 1-0 lead.

After the restart, Regina Mogolola and Lelona Daweti were brought in to replace Oratile Mokwena and Thalea Smidt respectively as Coach Jerry Tshabalala shuffled his tactics.

The reigning champions grabbed a second goal in the 57th minute thanks to Tiisetso Makhubela who grabbed her first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Minnies bagged her brace in a blistering spell of attack.

Late on, Boitumelo Rabale, Miche Minnies and Lehlogonolo Mashigo were replaced by Lumka Qhekeka, Siphesihle Magazi and Chantelle Esau as Sundowns Ladies held on to secure yet another impressive victory.

Speaking after the game, Coach Jerry praised his side for sticking to the game plan to prevent any surprises.

“We were up against a very solid team who have taken the league by storm. Our tactics had to be spot on and our domination of the ball showed how much we executed our game plan to perfection. At certain moments, we made tactical changes to keep the team fresh because we have had a very long season that saw us play across three different competitions. Overall, it was a good result for us and we are very excited with the way we took our chances,” Kappa stated.

The win meant Sundowns Ladies have now clocked up 79 points this season courtesy of 26 wins in 29 games. The Brazilians have now scored 122 goals and have conceded just 11 times, the best defense in the league. Meanwhile, Coach Jerry’s troops have now amassed a staggering goal difference of +111.

With her brace, Miche Minnies has now scored 22 goals, just two shy of Boitumelo Rabale (24 goals) going into the final match of the season. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has scored 12 times, Melinda Kgadiete has scored 10 goals and Rhoda Mulaudzi has 8 goals to her name.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be looking to wrap up the season on a victorious note as they square off against Richmond Ladies on Saturday.
