Sundowns Ladies look to extend unbeaten run against Tuks

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the Hollywoodbets Super League, as they square off against the newly promoted University of Pretoria at the Groenkloof Stadium on Saturday.

The fixture provides Banyana Ba Style with an immediate opportunity to make amends after they were held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy Queens last time out.

Sedilame Boseja believes converting created chances is atop the team’s agenda ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“Our preparations ahead of the game have been intense because we all want to respond positively. We have been working tirelessly on our finishing, knowing that slim leads are sometimes not enough. Everyone is committed to ensuring that we convert every chance and secure a win. We are eager to give our fans something to cheer about and make them proud of our performance. With everyone working round the clock, we are confident in our abilities and ready for the challenge. It’s going to be a tough game, but we are prepared to give it our all and come out on top,” the goalkeeper stated.

Vice-captain Karabo Makhurubetshi highlighted how grabbing a win against AmaTuks will benefit the team ahead of next week’s Tshwane Derby.

“A win will be a huge confidence booster for the team, especially since we are playing at home. We cannot afford to let any team bulldoze us on our turf. We have dusted off the results from last week and we are working extra hard to come out victorious in our next encounter. It is crucial for us to maintain our winning momentum and carry it into the Tshwane Derby next week. With everyone giving their best, we are determined to put on a great performance and make our fans proud,” said Karabo.

Last season, Banyana Ba Style had a successful run against newly promoted teams, winning with ease in most games. They secured a 2-0 victory away and a 4-0 win at home against Vasco da Gama Ladies. Similarly, City Lads Ladies were no match for them, as Sundowns Ladies won 8-0 at home and 3-0 away. More recently, the team continued their winning form with a dominant 4-1 victory over newly promoted Copperbelts Ladies.

Despite those impressive results, Makhurubetshi believes nothing should be taken for granted, “It’s not just a matter of playing against newly promoted teams, as all the teams in the Hollywoodbets Super League have beefed up their squads to avoid relegation. The league is getting more competitive, but when it comes to the new teams, it can be especially difficult to play against unfamiliar opponents.

“It requires a lot of discipline from us to maintain our winning streak this season. We won’t take the newly promoted teams lightly, even though they are new to the league. They are well-coached and we know it won’t be a walk in the park. We will have to grind for the results, as we aim to maintain our position at the top of the league table.”

Despite beginning the season with two defeats and one draw, the University of Pretoria has been impressive in their last two games, securing an incredible 3-2 away win against TUT FC and a 2-1 win over Royal AM in their most recent fixture. These results have helped them climb up to ninth place on the table.

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and the University of Pretoria will take place on Saturday, March 18th, at the Groenkloof Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15h00.

The right attitude will be to go all out without any complacency… play as a team, play for the team, pass the ball to a player better positioned to score and get rid of selfishness. This season points are not coming on a platter we need to work extremely hard for our wins. Good luck
