Sundowns Ladies looking to finish off remarkable season on a high

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be looking to end their season on a high when they face Ma-Indies Ladies in their last game of the Hollywoodbets Super League campaign. It’s been a season to remember for the treble winners, who clinched the COSAFA qualifiers for the CAF Champions League, dominated the inaugural edition of the CAF Champions League in Egypt and conquered the Hollywoodbets Super League for the second season running.

The Brazilians also shattered numerous goal-scoring and defensive records during the campaign, prompting Coach Jerry Tshabalala to describe 2021 as an extraordinary year for Masandawana.

“It was a great season for us and I would regard it as the best season in our illustrious history. The year saw us recruit top-quality players who duly contributed to the success of our season. Players such as Bambanani Mbane, Boitumelo Rabale, Melinda Kgadiete, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Zanele Nhlapho all made a huge difference in the way we play and the way we dominate games,” Coach Jerry stated.

The high-flying Brazilians have bossed the Hollywoodbets Super League this season. The Chloorkop side has won 23 times out of 25 games played, with just one draw and one defeat (boardroom decision). Coach Tshabalala’s troops have also scored the highest number of goals with 80 strikes to their name, and have conceded 14 times, also a league-best. Banyana Ba Style also boasts a mammoth goal difference of +66.
“We began the season very well with quality goals scored and several defensive shut-outs. However, we got a reality check from JVW FC (game ended 2-2) and we took that outcome as a wake-up call and we never took the foot off the pedal after that. I loved the way we dominated games and ground out results in some cases. Along the way, we introduced some youngsters into the mix and they gave a very good account of themselves. Players such as Khunjulwa Mali and Thembelihle Masibi showed at various times that they were up to the task of holding their own at the top level,”.

Having conquered every available tournament they have played in this season, Masandawana will be looking to wrap the season with a good result against their eighth-placed opposition. Both teams clashed earlier this season with The Brazilians registering a 3-0 win.

“I am very happy with the way we have gone about our business since we returned from Egypt. Several games pushed us to the limit, but somehow, we found a way to maintain our momentum. Even as we face Ma-Indies Ladies in our final game of the Hollywoodbets Super League, we are aiming to dominate the fixture and leave it all on the pitch as usual. I am hoping to give some of the youngsters some valuable playing time in the final match of the league season. It was a great season for us and despite the challenges encountered, we came out tops. Today, we are the league champions and the continental champions. Next season, we will aim to go again and give our best in every competition we participate in,” concluded Coach Tshabalala.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies square off against Ma-Indies Ladies on Sunday afternoon, at the Bidvest Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is at 15h00.
