Two-time CAF Women’s Champions League winners, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, have once again been crowned as the Best Club on the Continent for the second consecutive year. This comes after Banyana Ba Style won the accolade at the CAF Awards 2023, which was held in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Brazilians were simply unstoppable in 2023, thanks to their successful defense of the Hollywoodbets Super League title, as well as their sweeping of the CAF Women’s Champions League and the COSAFA Women’s Champions League title.
In the Hollywoodbets Super League end-of-season awards, Boitumelo Rabale was named Player of the Season for the second year running. It marked a perfect year for the Lesotho international footballer, who was also named Best Player of the Tournament at the recent CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast. In total, Rabale has notched an impressive 24 goals across all competitions this season.
“I am deeply honored to receive such a prestigious award and I am genuinely delighted to be acknowledged for my hard work. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my teammates for their continuous support, which made my achievements possible. This past season has been exceptional for us and it has positioned us strongly to defend our titles in the upcoming season,” Boitumelo stated.
Chuene Morifi was also recognized for her outstanding contributions, as she received the Fan’s Player of the Season award. The left-footed dynamo was a constant presence as Sundowns Ladies secured victory in every competition they participated in during the season. Impressively, Morifi scored 6 league goals and netted three in the COSAFA Qualifiers tournament, including one in the final against Botswana’s Double Action Ladies.
“It is always a great honor to be recognized for the hard work and effort I put in on the field, but I must emphasize that it is truly a team effort. I am immensely grateful for the constant support I receive from my teammates, the dedicated technical staff, and the club’s management,” Morifi stated.
The highly talented winger also shared what excited her the most during the treble-conquering season.
“The quality standard of business conducted was one of the key factors that contributed to our triumph this season. The nominations of Tholakele Refilwe and Lebohang Ramalepe for CAF awards, the adaptation of young Malebogo Shawe into the team and the evident enjoyment of football by Kholosa Biyana at the club are what excited me the most,” Chuene concluded.
Congratulations to our unstoppable Ladies!!!
