After finding their scoring boots in style against Thunderbirds Ladies in midweek, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be gunning for more glory as they square off against an in-form side in Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies.
Braces from Melinda Kgadiete and Miche Minnies propelled Masandawana a resounding victory last time out and they will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League as the battle for the title heats on.
Sundowns Ladies currently enjoy a four-point lead at the top of the standings with 52 points, courtesy of 17 wins in 20 games played. TUT Ladies are in second place with 48 points having played two games more. JVW FC finds themselves in third place with 45 points.
Sunday’s opponents, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies are placed fourth with 41 points with Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala anticipating a tough encounter.
“We responded very well against Thunderbirds Ladies after a very difficult game in the previous week. On Sunday, we will be facing a different opposition and we need to be vigilant in every aspect of our game. The goal is to retain the league title this season and we cannot afford any further slip-ups,” Kappa stated.
On the goal-scoring front, The Brazilians have shown their class all season with new signing Miche Minnies leading the way with 15 goals, one more than Boitumelo Rabale who is on 14 strikes. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has 10 goals to her name while Melinda Kgadiete has registered seven goals.
Overall, Banyana Ba Style has smashed in an impressive 83 goals, just four short of the 87 strikes scored last season. Despite the ruthless attacking displays this season, Coach Jerry believes winning the title is top of the agenda.
“We are pleased with the quality and quantity of goals we have scored this season. Nevertheless, our eyes are on the top prize which is clinching the trophy. We have 10 games left to play, and we need to win as many games as possible to create some daylight at the top of the standings. We are a team that usually embarks on long runs without dropping points and we need to work hard to ensure things stay that way,” Coach Jerry concluded.
Sundowns Ladies dominated this fixture last season with a 2-0 home win and a similar score line was recorded in the reverse fixture. Earlier this term, The Brazilians also registered a 2-0 home victory thanks to goals from Boitumelo Rabale and Gabonnelwe Kekana.
The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies will take place on Sunday, 2 October 2022, at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h30.
