Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies scored two late goals to grab all three points against Vasco da Gama Ladies in the catch-up round of the Hollywoodbets Super League. The Brazilians have now scored 88 goals this season, one more than last season.
Strikes from Boitumelo Rabale and Lelona Daweti were enough to hand The Brazilians maximum points at Parow Park in Cape Town as they etch closer to retaining their league title.
With the likes of Andile Dlamini, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane, Thalea Smidt, and Melinda Kgadiete all missing due to International commitments, Coach Jerry Tshabalala still managed to field a formidable side against the Cape Town side.
Sedilame Bosija continued her streak in goal with Karabo Makhurubetshi, Regina Mogolola, Lehlogonolo Mashigo, and fit-again Zanele Nhlapho anchoring the defense line. Oratile Mokwena, Lelona Daweti, and Boitumelo Rabale started in midfield while Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Thembelihle Masibi and Miche Minnies started in a three-prong attack.
Despite dominating the key areas in the first half, The Brazilians were unable to find the back of the net against their resolute opponents.
After the restart, Rhoda Mulaudzi and Khutso Pila were called upon to replace Thembelihle Masibi and Miche Minnies as Coach Jerry freshened the attack.
However, quick-fire goals from Boitumelo Rabale thanks to a well-taken penalty and a goal from Lelona Daweti, ensured Banyana Ba Style registered a 2-0 victory.
Lelona Daweti was pleased with the hard-fought victory, “The game was far from easy because our opponents deployed a low block and foiled several of our attacking chances. They came hard at us, thus, we had to dig deep to secure maximum points. These are the kind of fixtures that we will be encountering during the CAF Women’s Champions League, and we must be ready to always find a way to win. We are pleased with our fighting spirit yet again.”
Boitumelo Rabale who ended her mini-goal drought praised the team’s determination, “The pressure was on us to win the game and we showed our class when it mattered the most. Our opponents were very determined to get a result, but we were patient, and we reaped the rewards late on. We are very proud of our performance today and we are prepared for the next game.”
Sundowns Ladies have now strengthened their lead at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 58 points accumulated thanks to 19 wins in 22 games. The Brazilians have now scored a whopping 88 goals with only 11 conceded. Coach Jerry’s troops also possess a mammoth goal difference of +77.
On the Sundowns’ scoring chart, Boitumelo Rabale has now joined Miche Minnies on 15 goals. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has 10 strikes to her name, Melinda Kgadiete has 7 goals while Rhoda Mulaudzi had 6 strikes.
Up next for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies is another clash against Vasco da Gama Ladies on Sunday, 9 October 2022 at the UWC Stadium.
You don’t disappoint as usual, unlike me,you and Diski team play with flair,no restriction.I wish senior technical team can learn from you that in order to succeed in football you need to be fearless. You just can’t have a machine gun and fear a person with a gun for the birds, that is what those two cowards,Rulani and Manqoba are doing.
Well done ladies the only disappointment is that we were unable to watch the match as there was no live streaming of the game. You showed resilience even when 5 of our players were on international duty, it shows the depth and belief the team has on every player. Lets stroll to defending our title
Beautiful soccer ladies… You never disappoint
