In our goal of the day, we relive Keletso Makgalwa’s memorable strike against Bloemfontein Celtic in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 earlier in the season.
Just after the hour mark, with Mamelodi Sundowns trailing after Ndumiso Mabena had put the visitors ahead, coach Pitso Mosimane made a tactical change to introduce ‘Aguero’ into the fold with the hope that he would turn the game on its head.
Makgalwa did exactly that.
He’d barely been on the pitch for five minutes when he was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot – Themba Zwane stepping up to calmly slot away the penalty to bring us back on level terms.
Then Mosa Lebusa put us ahead before Makgalwa rounded things up with a goal that guaranteed a place in the semifinals.
Receive the ball from Thapelo Morena in the opposition half, the forward took a chance and decided to go solo, eliminating three defenders by cutting inside and driving a low shot past goalkeeper Sipho Chaine for Sundowns’ third goal of the match.
What made it even more special was the precision, a toe-poke with what is considered to be Makgalwa’s weaker foot…
