Mamelodi Sundowns defender, Terrence Mashego, has expressed his pride following the announcement of the Bafana Bafana 23-man squad. Mashego, who was called-up with six other Downs players for national duty, will be representing South Africa in the FIFA series international friendlies that will run from the 18th to the 26th of March 2024 in Algeria.
Looking ahead of the two scheduled encounters, Mashego has expressed his excitement to be re-united with the AFCON bronze medalists.
“It’s always a pleasure to see the guys. We have built a special bond, which I believe has been our secret weapon. Our relationship is a special one and it’s working in our favour,” he said.
Following their scintillating form at the AFCON, Mashego admitted to feeling pressure to maintain a certain standard and to continue making South Africans proud.
“I’m proud to be a part of the team but I must admit, there’s pressure on our side to make sure we up the standards. The pressure to win every game is there and it has to happen, especially for our supporters who believe in us. It’s up to us now to not drop the ball” he expressed.
Bafana Bafana will play their first match against Andorra on Thursday evening (21 March 2024) at the 19 May 1956 Stadium. They will then face the hosts, Algeria on Tuesday (26 March 2024) at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
