Mamelodi Sundowns will face the University of Western Cape (UWC) in an enticing Thursday clash as the Hollywoodbets Super League fourth round of games takes center stage.
Banyana Ba Style come into the fixture on the back of three straight wins to start the season. Their 2-0 victory over the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Ladies last time out marked their 11th consecutive league triumph and their 16th consecutive victory across all competitions.
Consequently, the Brazilians remain the only team this campaign with a flawless record, having scored 11 times and kept two clean sheets. These early-season statistics have stirred excitement in Lebohang Ramalepe.
“Before the league commenced, the coaching team outlined a clear mandate: approach each game with the mindset of securing maximum points. That has been our driving force since the season began. We have encountered some tough teams already and I am pleased with how we have executed our game plan,” stated the Limpopo-born defender.
Coach Thinasonke Mbuli’s side has finished as runners-up in the Hollywoodbets Super League in the past three seasons to Banyana Ba Style. However, they have bagged just four points this season with one win, one draw and one loss. Despite those mixed results, Ramalepe believes the Western Cape side remains a tough team to play against.
“They have performed very well in previous seasons and continue to be a tough opponent despite their early-season struggles. But in football, there is no room for complacency. Therefore, we are approaching the game with utmost seriousness and are determined to maintain our winning mentality because that is the Sundowns way,” Lebohang added.
Games between Sundowns Ladies and UWC have been regarded as one of the most exciting fixtures on the Hollywoodbets Super League calendar. Last season, the Tshwane giants achieved a stunning double over their opponents, securing a 3-0 home win and a 1-0 away victory.
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and University of Western Cape Ladies is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 21st, at the UWC Stadium in Cape Town, with kick-off set for 15:30.
