Mamelodi Sundowns registered their thirteenth win in the DStv Premiership as they completed the double over Chippa United, winning by two goals to one at the Sisa Dukashe in Mdantsane on Monday afternoon. Masandawana have played twenty games in the league thus far and have secured forty-six -points this season, coming in at position two is AmaZulu with forty points. With ten games left in the DStv Premiership, The Brazilians are the only side who have not tasted defeat.
The battle line was set from the first whistle and Peter Shalulile had the first bite as he took a snapshot in the box but keeper Ismael Watenga was alert to make a point-blank save. Themba Zwane and Lebo Maboe combined to open up spaces behind the home sides’ defence but they kept it together and managed to clear the danger. In the fifteenth minute, Aubrey Modiba found space on the right-hand side and was fouled by the defender in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, the resulting kick was scored by Zwane who got his ninth of the season in the league.
Shalulile kept the Chilli Boys’ defence on their toes, he had another chance to extend the lead but his shot was blocked. Siphelele Mkhulise who was having a stellar of a game in the middle also tried his luck in the later parts of the first half but his effort could only hit the body of the defender. Denis Onyango who had little to do most of the half was called to make a save as halftime was looming. The first stanza ended with Masandawana in the lead.
Zwane started off where the team ended in the opening half, he found himself in the box after some great interplay with Shalulile, his well-placed attempt could only hit the post with Watenga well-beaten. Chippa United managed to grab an equaliser early in the second half as Augustine Kwem beat Onyango with a well taken shot to make it 1-1.
Masandawana upped the ante to chase a second goal and take the game away from United, Mkhulise had back to back chances in the seventy-second minute but the ball did not want to hit the back of the net. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, Shalulile managed to find the back of the net with a header after Modiba’s cross was headed by Maboe against the crossbar and the rebound fell for the Namibian frontman. This was his ninth goal in the DStv Premiership which sees him level with Zwane in the race for the golden boot.
The next game is a clash in the Nedbank Cup against Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld on Thursday the 15 and kick-off is at 18:00
How we lined up: Onyango. Morena, De Reuck, Lebusa, Lakay (Kapinga 66′), Coetzee, Mkhulise, Maboe, Modiba, Zwane (Mvala 89′), Shalulile
Subs: Goss, Nascimento,Kapinga,Vilakazi,Mudau,Mkhuma,Kekana,Motupa,Mvala
Good win guys. Modiba top performance… It fits in well as Lakay is suspended. It’s amazing how casual we are though… But since we winning I shouldn’t complain. Good luck against Pirates. I hope we ready for counter~attacks. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
I think we’ll have to improve threefold if we were to beat Pirates on Thursday. Zwane is way off form, but he continues to start every game. The central pairing of Lebusa and de Reuck also looks suspect. I think the three coaches will have to shift Lebusa to play left back and pair Nascimento and de Reuck in central in the absence of Lakay. Modiba is very good as winger, but not as a left back. I’m really really scared for Thursday, but let’s wait and see.
💙💙💙💙
Yes we won but not convinced players too casualty too many unnecessary passes not taking chances shoot even if had break no one brave to shoot we start consider in every game why Nascimento bee bench if Lebusa play i knew we Wil consider i doubt we will beat Pirate the way we play lets hope for better
Well done boys… Keep grinding those results.. 👆👆👆
Too casual approach to the game! Zwane is just out of form! Pirates will expose us I’m afraid!
We are our own worst enemy because of poor finishing,if we were clinical enough Shaulile and Zwane could be having arund 17 goals each and it seems something is not been done to remedy that disease,if this doesn’t change we will end the league been unbeaten but without a league cup, remember what happened against Leopards and Swallows, the draw against TTM and Celtic. No offense but truth be told,we are competing against 15 very weak teams, had we been clinical enough we could have wrapped up this league by now.We are too casual and our game lacks that intensity, vigor and speed.Credit to the team for a hard fought victory and special thanks to Modiba, this is the postman we know, keep on working hard, for players to win a league medal quickly,Downs is the only team to play for,you can as Lebusa and Maboe. To my technical team for today and tomorrow please let finishing and finishing only be the order of the day.
please coaches ask the boys to shoot at goals . the up coming game will automatically raise the bar no doubt .
