“There is still work that needs to be done in order for me to be fully fit for games.” – Rivaldo Coetzee.

Mamelodi Sundowns first team players are currently on a mid-season break to recharge for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. The Brazilians Defender Rivaldo Coetzee, who had suffered a hernia injury at the beginning of the year is now back with the team working on his fitness. Whilst most players will be going home, he will be taking advantage of the break to enhance his fitness.

Coetzee talked about strengthening his fitness training during the break, he said: “I won’t be going home during this break period we’re having with the team. I’m going to be here in Joburg because I need to work a little bit more. I will be looking to work on strengthening mostly the area where I had surgery because there’s still work that needs to be done in order for me to be fully fit for games”.

The defender made his post-injury ‘debut’ during the Carling Black Label Cup semi-final game at FNB Stadium against Orlando Pirates that ended with a victory for Bafana Ba Style as they progressed with four goals and clinched their first-ever Carling Cup trophy.

The Masandawana utility player added that he looks forward to putting in the extra work to ensure that he is back on the pitch and mentioned that he is aware that he must work harder to be on the starting eleven. “I understand that I have to work hard for my place in the team and to be able to get some game time.”

The former Ajax Cape Town Academy graduate concluded by saying: “With the FIFA World Cup break underway, I hope to achieve my fitness goal. The break will give me enough time to achieve the fitness goals I have set.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will return from their mid-season break on the 28th of November 2022 to prepare for the DSTV Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates, which is scheduled totake place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
