Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be looking to end their season on a high when they face Richmond United Ladies in their last game of the Hollywoodbets Super League campaign.
It’s been a season to remember for the reigning champions who ruthlessly dominated the league whilst shattering numerous goal-scoring and defensive records in extraordinary style.
Despite relinquishing their CAF title a few weeks back, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala believes his troops have gained valuable lessons throughout the campaign.
“It has been a very long but interesting season for us across the various competitions we participated in. Regardless of the results in the COSAFA Qualifiers and CAF Women’s Champions League, I am proud of how my charges displayed their bravery on countless occasions this season. It was a campaign that saw us play over 35 games and on certain occasions, we had to deal with injuries and fatigue. Nevertheless, lessons have been learned and we cannot wait to restrategize and go again next season,” Coach Jerry stated.
Ahead of the clash against Richmond United Ladies, Kappa has backed his charges to finish off the season on a positive note.
“Everyone in camp is eager to wrap up the campaign in style. However, we haven’t lost sight of how good Richmond has been all season. They have a very good attack with vibrant midfielders who are capable of dominating games. We saw how they easily dismantled Thunderbirds in their last fixture, hence, we are going to be vigilant to avoid any form of complacency. We know they will also be looking to cause an upset, but we will be ready to fight for maximum points in our last game of the season,” Kappa concluded.
The high-flying Brazilians have bossed the Hollywoodbets Super League this season. The Chloorkop side has won 26 times out of 29 games played. Coach Tshabalala’s troops have also scored the highest number of goals with 122 strikes to their name, and have conceded 11 times, also a league best. Banyana Ba Style also boasts a mammoth goal difference of +111.
Richmond United Ladies meanwhile are placed 7th on the standings with 15 wins in 29 games and are guaranteed to finish no lower than their current position, irrespective of what happens against Banyana Ba Style.
The Brazilians have enjoyed this fixture in recent times. Last season, Sundowns Ladies scored 10 times against their opponents with a 5-1 home win followed by a 2-5 away victory. Another five-star performance followed earlier this season with Lelona Daweti and Chuene Morifi both bagging impressive braces.
The game could also offer Boitumelo Rabale (24 goals) and Miche Minnies (22 goals) a chance to settle the top scorer of the season debate with just 2 goals separating both players going into the final match of the season. Last year’s joint-top scorer Andisiwe Mgcoyi has scored 12 times, Melinda Kgadiete has scored 10 goals and Rhoda Mulaudzi has 8 goals to her name.
The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Richmond United Ladies will take place on Sunday, 26th November 2022 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00.
