Three Points Secured At The Calabash

Three goals, three points is how we finished matchday one of the 2020/21 season. One of the biggest clashes of the new season has come and gone and ended with a big result for Masandawana. The last time the Brazilians played Amakhosi in the opening game of the season it ended in a one-all draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Few changes were made to the starting lineup from the side that did their duty in the MTN 8 loss to Celtic. Thapelo Morena made his return to the side after being on the sidelines after being injured against SuperSport United. Andile Jali and Kermit Erasmus also made their way into the starting eleven.

The game started off well as the home side wanted to inflict some pain to Masandawana, but the great big blue wall withstood all that was thrown at them. It only took the Brazilians twelve minutes to threaten the home side’s goals as Hlompho Kekana had his shot saved by Itumeleng Khune. In the twenty-first minute Peter Shalulile had a chance saved by Ramahlwe Mphahlele after he beat Khune outside the box, but the former Masandawana player was in place to clear the danger. However, the Namibian international needed only thirty-six minutes to register his first goal for the Brazilians.

After the first stanza, Masandawana held their heads high and continued to dominate the second half. They needed only eight minutes to find the second goal as Kermit Erasmus registered his first goal and the second goal for the day.

The home side kept on pushing for that elusive goal that would bring them back into the game but that did not produce any result and Masandawana managed to take advantage as substitute George Maluleka was fouled in the box by Khune which presented the Brazilians with a chance to take the three points with three goals scored. Themba Zwane stepped up to score his first of the season.

How we lined up: Onyango, Morena (76′ Mudau), Nascimento, Madisha, Lakay, Jali, Kekana (70′ Maluleka), Coetzee, Zwane, Shalulile (70′ Domingo), Erasmus (56′ Maboe)

Subs: Mweene, Mudau, Domingo, Maluleka, Lebusa, Mvala, Modiba, Mkhulise, Maboe

Great performance by the team. Glad for Kermit and Shaulile. This will help with confidence. Little disappointed with Zwane. Not sure if it’s the player of the season award that makes him act like this. Easy pass… Easy goal… But… He didn’t become player of the season for scoring only, but his overall play… So share the ball. Im glad for the coaches too. They needed this one. I trust AJ. If he can stay off of other things then he can achieve even more

I couldn’t watch the first half, but I was highly impressed by AJ and Rivaldo. I could see in the 2nd half that AJ was going to be a MOM. I wasn’t really happy with the overall performance of the team. We were giving away possession quite easily and had we played like we did against Celtics, we would’ve buried those Zebras.

The team is congratulated and excited about the win, however it cannot be without positive criticism. A number of players technical acumen when it comes to possession football was lacking in that the were sloppy in their passing game. Some players lost possession every minute if not two. Yes we won but it wasn’t a good game to watch except for goals scored. Mshishi congratulations on the achievements, however put that on display going forward. You lose to much possession and always take time to pass fellow players. Lyle Lakay, you pushing to hard to impress. Relax and you shall be seen. You lose possession by trying to dribble and not releasing the ball early. Hashim Domingo, put on more work at training and prove your worth through hard work.. You are too sloppy and lack energy. Good luck in the next game and congra on the win again.

We always start 2 slowly every season but this time around we r number one.We have outdid ourselves congratulations boys. The 2 new comers have made me proud.I hate it when out&out strikers r bought&left at home 2 b replaced by false nine who run like headless chickens throughout the season bcoz of favouritism from the ex coach.Welldone coaches for coming with a new dimension. The season is still new but I can say we r going straight 2 the promised land. The 3 coaches need 2 respect each other only 4 this ship b steered 4ward.Congratulations&welldone Sundowns.

Well done to the three musketeers, the yellow men and I was s a beat cagey not seeing Sirono on the team sheets but relax when seeing the performance of the boys. They just need a beat of the flair of give it more piano and shoes for it to look impressive and avoid loosing clear scoring opportunity that could have been scored by other fellows instead of individuals. Like Zwane should have allowed the other score to somebody else

Great win to built on,great game plan, teams are scared of us so we should take that to our advantage by always starting all our games on front foot like Liverpool.Previously we used to also be scared to attack the likes of Pirates and Chiefs even though we have more arsenals than the two of the combined,i see that changing this season. What i noticed is that Domingo is very talented play but for now he lacks that telepathy,i think Mkhulise should be played because he can attack and defend at the same time, above all he is a hard worker and has got a big engine the same as Magerman and Domingo be slowly integrated into the team.Overall the future looks bright. Most importantly, please don’t throw away our talented development players because they know and understand the culture of the team more than any other player. They helped us a lot last season. He should learn to always be ruthless,i think we should have hammered chiefs on Saturday.

Congratulations to the technical team for winning us this one, I like the fact that we had two strikers working together in that match, our attack was solid and defense wise we were good also. To Mshishi ,do not spoil your game, personal glory is not entertained at sundowns, you should have passed the ball to Shalulile to increase the lead, this tendency is not allowed, even Sirino at times have this tendency of not passing the ball in good time. Jali ke Bosso, big up dude , you have no competition in that midfield, keep up the good work.Regarding the new signings , they have been good so far, keep introducing them , we still need to see Gift Motupa playing.
