Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies kick off their Hollywoodbets Super League title defense on Sunday with a clash against JVW FC. The reigning champions will be eager to start their campaign on a winning note as they face a familiar opponent.
Last season, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in their first meeting, with Boitumelo Rabale finding the net for Sundowns. In the return fixture, Melinda Kgadiete’s goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Brazilians.
Ahead of the season opener, Sundowns Ladies’ Zanele Madonsela and goalkeeper Mbali Ntimane shared their thoughts on the new campaign.
Madonsela expressed her excitement:
“New season, new goals. I am very excited that the league is back and we are playing our first game against a very competitive side. We expect a very tough season because the competition gets stronger every year, but our mentality of winning and applying ourselves will be key. It is about consistency, discipline and giving our all in every match. It is going to be a very interesting game, and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead of the encounter.”
The veteran defender also spoke on the intense competition JVW brings.
“They are a team that always brings intensity and they push us to perform at our best. Their stats from the previous season show they are doing very well, and they have a squad filled with talented and experienced players. They fight hard and always play with great energy, which makes them a dangerous opponent. However, we are determined to start our season on a positive note. Our preparation has been intense and we know the importance of beginning the campaign with strong performances.”
Goalkeeper Mbali Ntimane also emphasized the significance of the league’s return and starting strong:
“I feel good about the resumption of the league; it allows us to test ourselves again. We have been working hard in training, and now it is time to put that into practice on the field. Every new season presents new challenges, but also new opportunities to grow as a team and as individuals. We are excited to be back competing at the highest level and ready to give our best.”
