Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the Hollywoodbets Super League, as they square off against Royal AM at TUKS Stadium on Sunday.
The Brazilians come into the fixture on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over TUT Ladies Football Club in the highly anticipated Tshwane Derby last time out.
That win ensured Banyana Ba Style remained top of the standings with 19 points from seven games with six wins and one draw recorded. Top scorer Boitumelo Rabale believes a win on Sunday will further solidify the team’s position at the top of the league table.
“At the beginning of the season, we set our sights on winning each game, and thus far, we have done just that, aside from dropping only two points. Our team has been playing exceptionally well, and we have been putting in the effort required to achieve our goals. We have a great group of players who work hard both on and off the field, and our hard work is paying off. However, we know that we cannot afford to be complacent and need to continue working hard if we want to maintain our position at the top of the league table,” Rabale stated.
Queen, who scored against Royal AM (previously known as Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies) last season, stated that she is more interested in the team claiming all three points than in continuing her scoring record against them.
“I believe that if I work hard for the team, the goals will come. Scoring is important, but it’s not everything. As long as we win and perform well as a team, that’s all that matters to me. I’m excited about the match on Sunday and can’t wait to see what we can achieve together as a team. We will be giving our all and leaving everything on the field,” the reigning Player of the Season stated.
Royal AM has only suffered one defeat this season, a 2-1 loss to the University of Pretoria during the fifth round of matches. With three wins and three draws in seven games, the team owned by Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is currently placed sixth on the standings.
Ahead of the clash on Sunday, midfielder Khunjulwa Mali believes that the team has what it takes to secure a win against Royal AM.
“We recognize the difficulty of the challenge that awaits us, but we are fully prepared to respond with all our might. Our team has invested countless hours into fine-tuning our game plan and is eager to execute it to perfection on the pitch. We believe in our ability to play as a cohesive unit and will rely on our collective effort to secure a victory. Although we expect a tough match, we embrace the challenge and are ready to fight for every point. Our goal is not only to win but to provide our loyal fans with an exciting and memorable performance,” Mali stated.
Banyana Ba Style achieved a double victory over their opponents last season, winning 2-0 at home and 3-0 on the road.
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Royal AM will take place on Sunday, April 2nd, at the TUKS stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15h00.
Good luck Ladies. lets go out there and do our best to get the three points.
