Coach Rulani Mokwena Looks Ahead To Coton Sport Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for their last CAF Champions League Group stages game against Coton Sport this weekend. The Brazilians look to secure three points in the competition. Head Coach, Rulani Mokwena, previewed the clash and shared his insights on getting maximum points weekend’s clash.

Ahead of the fixture, Coach Rulani touched on the ongoing preparations for the Champions League fixture. “It’s been a good break for us. There’s been good energy since we’ve returned, and a lot of good work has been done. We now concentrate on preparing to play against a good side, Coton Sport. Their results don’t show that, but you can see the quality in the team and with regards to their attack.”

Coach Mokwena mentioned that the Cameroonian side has good quality players such as Patient Wassou, Ramsas Nguimzeu. He added that these players are aggressive and can create a lot of problems for any team.

Returning from the International FIFA break, the Brazilians Coach shared that the international FIFA Break was important for the squad as they took the liberty to manage the team and the players that needed to put in more work. He further revealed that the players that returned from international duty  were put on different programs, whilst the players that played several matches were given a couple of days off.

During their first-leg match against the Cameroonian side at Roumde Adija Stadium, the Brazilians walked away with three points after their 3-1 win away from home. After the result from the first leg game, the hosts will be looking to close off the group stages on a good note with a home win.

“Coton Sport is a strong side and has a lot of players that have potential. We have to make sure that we are at our best on Saturday and we perform very well if we want to win the match. It’s important for us to finish on top in Group B.”, commented the Masandawana Coach on their opposition and the team’s game plan.

The Bafana Ba Style Coach emphasised that the team’s winning mentality still applies as they go into the next game and that it is important for them to go enter the knockout stages with the feeling of winning.

Mamelodi Sundowns go head-to-head with Coton Sport on the 1st of April 2023, Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The Champions League fixture will kick off at 21h00.
