Today is matchday, Mamelodi Sundowns take on Jwaneng Galaxy in the return leg of the Preliminary Round of the CAF Champions League. Masandawana goes into the clash with a two-goal lead after the first game away in Botswana. This game comes after a great result for the log leaders as they beat Orlando Pirates by a goal to nil this past weekend.
Going into the game coach Rulani Mokwena shared what he feels the game today brings and said that, “we are going into this CAF fixture with a lot of confidence, we got an important three points from a direct opponent for the championship in the domestic league. That chapter is closed now we have to make sure now we are mentally in the right space”.
A win for Masandawana will ensure that they qualify for the group stages.
“A two-nil lead is a very dangerous scoreline, particularly when you are halfway through. We take it as forty-five minutes with the next ninety being the second forty-five minutes to see us into the group stages. We just want to make sure that we have the right mentality to approach this game and that has been the main focus. We have to be responsible and diligent because we carry the responsibility of one of the biggest clubs on the African continent with huge expectations that go beyond an ordinary club.” said coach Rulani Mokwena.
After the first leg, there were some instances that showed what type of club Galaxy is and Coach Rulani Mokwena spoke about how they play and stated that “they are very difficult to play against, they do build from the back. We know we have to deal with their situation in relation to how they build from the back. Those are the challenges and schemes they presented to us in the first leg. Let’s see what happens in the first five to ten minutes. They are very good on set pieces and we need to deal with that and look after the threat they pose us”.
The game takes place at 16:00 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium and will be broadcasted on SABC 1.
