We don’t want to be complacent because there’s still a lot to play for – Grant Kekana

Mamelodi Sundowns returns to domestic league duties and hosts Cape Town City on Tuesday evening for a DStv Premiership clash. Bafana Ba Style Defender, Grant Kekana shared the team’s preparations for the upcoming match, as well as how they will approach the remainder of the domestic league fixtures.

Coming from a CAF Champions League game played this past weekend, Grant Kekana conveyed that most of the players who were playing in match reported to the club on Sunday for some recovery work. He added that the rest of the team started with preparations for the Cape Town City game.

Kekana mentioned what the team expects from the opposition. “Cape Town City is a good team, we know that they’re going to come out guns blazing. I think that they also want to reach their target from last season when they finished second. It will be a tough encounter that we will prepare well for and ensure that we give it our best.”

Although the Brazilians have already been crowned the 2022/23 DSTV Champion, they will be looking to collect three points at home and extend their lead at the top of the log.

“At Mamelodi Sundowns, we play each game to win, so we will keep the same mentality going into the Cape Town City game. We don’t want to be complacent because there’s still a lot to play for. As much as we’ve won the league, there are records that we are willing to break in the league”, said Grant as he communicated the team’s mentality going into the Tuesday evening game.

Grant mentioned that the squad has standards that they’ve set for themselves at the beginning of the season. He added that these standards will be motivation for them to continue winning games.

After several successful home games with the yellow nation painting the Brazilians’ home stadium yellow, Grant relayed a message to the supporters. “Masandawana, as we’ve reached the end of the season  we having been loving the support in the past few games, especially hearing you sing your lungs out.. We hope to see you in more numbers for the remaining matches. We will play our hearts out as usual and give you the football experience that you deserve as our 12th men.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Cape Town City on Tuesday, 03 April 2023 in the DSTV Premiership. The fixture will take place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 19h30.
