Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies forward Lelona Daweti showed off her talent in a battle for bragging rights against rivals Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Sunday afternoon. The 22-year old scored two superb goals against her opponent’s, contributing to an enormous 4-1 victory in the much-anticipated Tshwane derby.
“We had to win that game, we had to play our best football and showcase our style of football and how we do things around here,” said Daweti on her team’s outstanding performance.
Daweti says that winning the challenging encounters early in the HollywoodBets Super League is an added advantage for her team as the pressure gets lifted off their shoulders: “We just want to win all our games, we have to beat all the tough teams and be done with them so we can be relieved this season.”
Masandawana went unbeaten last season in the first season of the SAFA National Women’s League, now called HollywoodBets Super League and are the defending Champions of the top-flight competition. Many teams will be looking to be the first ones to stop the determined Yellow Nation from completing another unbeaten season. However, the Ladies team have strategies in place to achieve their plans, “Now we have another goal that we are setting, we have to win nine games to achieve our goal for this season. Preparations have been really good, our coach has been pushing us to win these games in a row.” concluded the in-form Daweti.
Mamelodi Sundowns play their next game against Thunderbirds Ladies on Saturday 22 May at Groenkloof Stadium, kick-off is 15h00.
