“We Strive For Greatness Not Only Locally But Internationally” – Haashim Domingo

Mamelodi Sundowns have made a bold statement in the DStv Premiership in the opening round of fixtures as they look more and more lethal with each game that they find themselves competing in. Downs midfielder, Haashim Domingo has enjoyed a strong start to the season, making multiple starts and appearing off the bench.

With the CAF Champions League on the horizon as well as the MTN8 final later this month, the schedule is about to get jam-packed for Mamelodi Sundowns. Domingo says he’s excited to play a role in Downs’ pursuit of dominance on the African continent and expressed eagerness for the road that lies ahead.

“We are preparing mentally for this [upcoming] period as we know it won’t be easy. The nice thing is that we have depth in the squad. We have lots of quality. So we will be prepared for the hectic schedule.”

With club football on a hiatus due to the international break, Domingo will be one of those looking to take the opportunity to enjoy the time off and revitalise: “During international breaks I like to put my feet up and relax and spend some quality time with my wife. I maintain my fitness during this time as well.”

With the CAF Champions League looming, the men’s team will be joined in their bid for African success by the trailblazing Masandawana Ladies team, who will be heading to Cairo in November to participate in the inaugural Women’s Champions League. Haashim shared his thoughts on the importance of having both men’s and ladies team’s representing the club and the country on the African stage:

“It’s huge to have both teams in the Champions League, it just sets the tone for the type of club we have. We strive for greatness not only locally but internationally.”

Mamelodi Sundowns return to action next week in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League against Congolese outfit, AS Maniema Union. The date and time are to be confirmed.
