A goal from Sipho Ngqakabana, brace from Siyabonga Mabena and another from Thapelo Maseko helped the Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team to see of the Cape Town City Reserves with a whopping 5-1 on Saturday morning at the Tuks Stadium.
The young Brazilians went into the game with one mandate which was to collect the maximum points and to ensure they continue with their winning ways. This was achieved by asserting dominance from the moment the kick-off whistle was blown.
The first big chance came very early from Mabena but it was Ngqakabana who opened the scoring on the 5th minute. This was a confidence booster for coach David Notaone’s charges as four minutes later a second goal to extend their lead was seen at the Tuks Stadium. It was Thapelo Maseko who found the back of the net to stun the away side early in the game.
Masandawana looked unstoppable as they continued to look for more goals. There was a big chance from them, but the City’s defence were able to snatch the ball away. Ngqakabana’s pressing was advantageous as he was able to snatch the ball back into their possession. He then delivered the ball to Maseko who made a thunderous shot to record a brace himself.
A fourth goal came in the death of the first stanza through Mabena to close off the half. It was his dribbling spells on the left that helped him go past the City defence to pull one to the top corner of the net. They went to the break four goals up.
The visitors looked more solid in the second half, as they posed a lot of threats in Masandawana’s box. An opportunity to get a goal came very early for them as they went past the Downs goalkeeper but luck was on the home side as the ball went wide.
They kept knocking on the door as they kept the ball in their possession, but that did not last long before another goal from Mabena came. Maseko, who had already scored a brace, delivered the ball to a ready Mabena in the danger area. Mabena then bolted it straight to the tongue of the net.
With Bafana Ba Style a man down after the hour mark, Cape Town City were able to find the back of the net through a long-range strike. Despite continuously looking for more goals in the closing stages of the match, Masandawana had to settle for a 4-1 scoreline.
