Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to face the newly promoted University of Fort Hare at Lucas Moripe Stadium this weekend, marking their 16th match of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The Brazilians were back to their best last time out as they hammered five past Durban Ladies, with Nthabiseng Majiya hitting a brace, coupled with strikes from Kholosa Biyana, Refilwe Tholakele and Andisiwe Mgcoyi.
That game saw Banyana Ba Style surpass the 50-goal mark for the season, currently totaling 53 goals, which is 13 more than they had scored at this stage last season after 15 games.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi, who has netted five goals this season, expressed enthusiasm about the team’s morale, stating, “Everyone is excited about the way things are going. Training has been intense, with a focus on improving our tactics and fitness levels. We are determined to maintain our good form and deliver a strong performance against our opponents this weekend.”
Emphasizing the need for concentration to avoid surprises, Mgcoyi added, “Newly promoted teams always bring that element of surprise. We saw how they drew against JVW FC 1-1 last week. So, we cannot take them for granted. They have also been vocal about stopping us, so we need to stay switched on and focused throughout.”
Echoing Mgcoyi’s sentiments, Melinda Kgadiete acknowledged the uncertainty of facing a new opponent, saying, “It is going to be a tricky one because we do not know them that well. We watched a few of their games on TV, but that was not enough to understand them fully. We anticipate them trying to surprise us with a different approach. Our focus is on executing our game plan effectively and adapting quickly to any challenges they present on the field.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture, Kgadiete emphasized the team’s unity and determination, stating, “Everyone is eagerly anticipating Saturday’s game. Following our unstoppable performance last time, we are motivated to build on that success against the University of Fort Hare. Playing at home gives us an advantage and we aim to capitalize on our familiar environment to deliver another strong performance for our supporters.”
The clash between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and the University of Fort Hare is scheduled for Saturday, the 22nd of June, at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with kick-off set for 13:00.
