Mamelodi Sundowns are back in Florida on Wednesday night to face Brazil’s Fluminense in a must-win clash at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. While they enter into their final fixture of the group stages, Masandawana have a good and realistic chance to advance to the knockout stages.
Following the 3-4 defeat against Borussia Dortmund over the weekend – a match dubbed as the most exciting so far in the tournament – Downs’ forward, Arthur Sales, reflected on the encounter and admitted to how tough the competition is in the tournament.
“I think everyone is very proud of the performance we displayed. We took many lessons from that match. When you play such big teams, you get to learn a lot, and we did. We can apply these lessons in our next game when we face Fluminense,” he said.
“The competition in this tournament is of the highest level. Participating in this tournament and playing these games has proven that Mamelodi Sundowns can match the level of competition with the different teams.”
The Pretoria-based side has won people’s hearts with the outstanding performances they have displayed in the tournament so far, and will look to conclude the group stages on a high note. The Brazilian-born player further mentioned that Masandawana are aware of their opponent and are optimistic that Bafana Ba Style can stun their opponents. He believes they can register another victory in the group that will see them advance to the Round of 16.
“I think when Fluminense watched our game against Dortmund, they saw the quality we will bring to the pitch against them. It’s going to be a good game because both teams play the same kind of football. All their players are good players, and they are fit to play for a team as good as Fluminense. We know that the likes of John Arias, Thiago Silva, and Matheus Martinelli will give us a tough time, but we are ready and excited to take them on, hoping for a positive result.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will face Fluminense on Wednesday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Kick-off has been scheduled for 21H00, live on SuperSport TV and the DAZN app.
