Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are gearing up for their 12th match of the Hollywoodbets Super League as they prepare to face Copperbelt Ladies at the Baroka Global Village this Saturday.
The Brazilians showcased their dominance in their last outing against First Touch, securing a comprehensive 6-0 victory over their Limpopo-based opponents. Regina Mogolola highlighted that this victory, coupled with the recent news of their participation in the 2024 Women’s Cup tournament in the United States in August, has lifted the spirits within the camp.
“It feels so good to be the first African team to play in such a prestigious invitational event and everyone is eagerly anticipating it. We are happy to showcase our talent on the international stage and leave our mark. This year is packed with excitement and that is what excites us the most,” said Regina.
Lebohang Ramalepe also expressed her anticipation ahead of the upcoming four-team inter-club tournament, featuring hosts Kansas City Current, Spain’s Atletico Madrid and Vissel Kobe of Japan.
“August cannot come soon enough as we are eager to test ourselves against top international competition. Competing in a tournament like this is a dream come true for many of us. It is not just about representing our Club; it is about showcasing the talent and determination of African women’s football on a global stage,” remarked Ramalepe with enthusiasm.
Ahead of the clash against Copperbelt, Mogolola emphasized the team’s determination to secure maximum points.
“They are often strong on their home ground, as they are not a team you can easily score against. And even if you do score against them, you cannot relax. You need to protect your lead because they can come back strong. As a team, we are prepared to fight for the results. Our focus is on maintaining intensity throughout the game, staying organized defensively and seizing every opportunity to capitalize on their weaknesses,” concluded Regina.
Lebohang also warned against complacency ahead of the fixture against the Limpopo-based side, saying, “As we have seen, teams have improved from last season. So, we have to be cautious not to underestimate them. Overall, our focus is on maintaining our high standards, executing our game plan effectively and giving our best performance on the field.”
The Brazilians are yet to lose a game against Copperbelt Ladies since their promotion last season, securing a 4-1 victory at home and a 1-0 away win.
The clash between Sundowns Ladies and Copperbelt Ladies is slated for Saturday, the 18th of May, at the Baroka Global Village, with kick-off scheduled for 13:00.
