Downs Looking to Break Another Record in the Winelands

Throughout the DStv Premiership spectacular run in the 2023/24 season, Mamelodi Sundowns have rewritten numerous book records. From registering their 51st consecutive win when they met Royal AM on Tuesday, to still being undefeated this season, Masandawana are on the verge of breaking another record, should they win, when they take a key trip to the Athlone Stadium for a top-of-the-table clash against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday afternoon.

Currently languishing on top of the table with 69 points, Bafana Ba Style are one victory shy of creating more history this season by guiding the Club to the unprecedented feat of completing a season with more than 71 points, a record they themselves set in the 2015/16 season.

While looking to continuously raise the bar in the winelands, their Stellenbosch counterparts will also be looking to collect all points on offer, in their quest to book a spot in next year’s CAF Champions League. With both sides having something to fight for, the battle of the current two top sides in the topflight promises exciting football.

Two weeks ago, the two sides presented football lovers with prime end-to-end football and a match to remember, when they met in Stellenbosch FC’s backyard to contend for the Nedbank Cup final spot. The Brazilians were able to claim the spot in a full house Danie Craven Stadium. That result will, however, not encourage the reigning champions to rest on their laurels when they meet the Maroons for the league return fixture.

Mamelodi Sundowns will do clash with Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon at the Athlone Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 15H00, live on SuperSport TV.
